First time going with aftermarket wheels and tires and I have a pretty stupid question but having a hard time finding an answer so sorry if this is repetitive. I have a 2017 Ram 1500, going with wheel and tire combo from CustomOffsets mounted balanced the entire deal. I really want to just get the new wheels and tires and throw them on, versus having to take them to a shop BUT will aftermarket TPMS that CustomOffsets install work with the ram monitoring system? Or do I need to get OEM sensors and have them installed?

I got my new wheels and tires with new TPMS sensors and all I had to do after the installation was take the truck to my local tire shop and have em re-
learned. Didn't charge me and it took all of about 5 minutes. My stock tpms would ramdomly ding when driving. After 3 trips to the dealership to have it fixed and 30 mile test drives every time I just added the new ones in my wheel and tire package and it's been fine.

You should have no problem. My tire shop sourced aftermarket TPMS from Ebay for my summer wheels on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee I previously owned. They worked fine.

The aftermarket TPMS do not always work. I ordered my wheels and tires separate from a set of OEM TPMS I got on eBay, and had the wheels shipped "loose mounted" which means uninflated. Then I took them all down to the tire shop and had them mount and balance and program the TPMS. It's an extra step, but it's the only way to guarantee your truck is gonna recognize the TPMS. If you look around these forums you'll find plenty of stories of aftermarket TPMS that didn't work.

Good luck.

This is true. Been through it twice on my 2014 Ram. Once when they broke one of the sensors and put in a aftermarket sensor. It always had problems with that one tire. I bought an OEM and had them change it. No issues until I just purchased new tires, wheels and 4 new sensors the other day and bam, 50 miles down the road they started dropping out until none of them worked.

I took it back to them yesterday and one of the techs was familiar with this issue. He said there was a same issue on another Ram where they replaced one sensor and had issues. Apparently they carry different types of sensor, so he handed me the correct ones so that I would have them when I go back in Monday to have them swapped out. If these don't work, I'm purchasing OEM and will have them installed. I asked him why the other techs weren't aware of this because after all, they are in the tire business. He replied it was a new issue that not all the techs are aware of.

OEM in the Mopar bag correct part # by using your vin. Anything else is a gamble and at $100 or so just to have a shop swap out aftermarket or knockoff ones that didn't work out, the extra dollars spent for OEM is well worth it. I went through two sets of eBay supposedly Mopar branded ones that were junk and wouldn't synchronize. I bought the four OEM bag Mopar ones and in less than a mile my evic was happy. Some have had good luck, some people have not. Do you like to gamble, your choice.
