So, My 03 4x4 auto trans dodge decided this morning to have a no crank day. Turn the key, nothing at all. I shifted thru the gears, tried neutral, foot on the brake and all that, still nothing. Got my jump box out and verified its not the battery. pulled the fuse box cover off and checked the fuses, all good. swapped out the starter relay, still nothing.

Here is were I'm getting lost. I jumped out the starter relay and the starter turns normally but with the key in the run position it does not run.

I assumed that it must be the ignition switch in the console. I dug it out and separated the covers and looked at the contacts and function of the switch and it looks good, no obvious burnt contacts or bad cams on the switch.

Then I looked for the neutral safety switch. I saw a post where someone mentioned it was the one with three wires. I found that connector and it is on a little sensor that has one retaining screw near the cat on the transmission just above the pan. The sensor has two o rings on it and a hole at the end. I wasn't sure this was the switch so I went to google. Google can't display any neutral safety switch that looks like anything I have on my tranny. I looked up parts pages and there are two listed for the 03's, an old school threaded one and one possible one but with a longer flat connector for 30-50 bucks. The connector is different than I anything I have.

So my questions are..
Am I on the right track with the neutral safety switch given that I can get a crank with no run even with the ignition switch on?

Can anyone detail the neutral safety switch location on a 1500 4x4 auto trans and describe it or attach an image of it?

Should I just replace both switches?

Could there be something else I'm not thinking of?

There are no codes.

In case it helps anyone else, I traced it to a no ground condition on the starter relay. I simply ran a new ground from the relay to the fender and all is well.
