A week ago, I put on a new oil pump. primed the pump with fresh oil before installation. afterwards my dash showed no oil pressure. I've removed it twice and packed with Vaseline each time after reading to try that to create a seal, so it doesn't airlock in case it had lost prime during the install. still no oil pressure. Just took it all apart for the third time, checked gaskets, made sure it was packed, everything is lined up right, and nothing. Read you can take of the oil pressure sensor and see if oil will shoot out to know if it's the sensor, but dint have a socket for it. Tried taking of oil filter and trying to push oil to see if it would come out there and nothing. I need the truck running for work and school that's about to start back up. Any ideas for what I can do to fix it? It's a SKP M72 oil pump I got off Rock Auto and I try to get pressure by turning the ignition for about thirty sec at a time with spark plugs out and fuel injectors unplugged.

What caused you to replace the oil pump? how many miles on it? Remove the distributor, is there any pick & pull yards around you, remove that distributor take it apart use that shaft to drive your new oil pump, drive it with a corded or non-corded drill to drive the new pump to prime it you need to put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it remove the oil pressure sending unit, the pressure kit has all the fittings along with the pressure tubing that goes to the Gauge, get the right socket or channel locks to remove the sending unit, if your mains or rod or cam bearings are worn you will not have good oil pressure.

Took off distributor and a shaft came along with it. Not sure if it's what was talked about or not so checked n it seemed to just be part of it. Tried running a flat head bit that fit in the slot where the shaft off of the distributor went and couldn't get it to spin. Have no idea what to do next.

if the oil pump doesnt spin time to pull it and get a new one you have issues.
