hey guys just got my first Ram!! It’s a 2019 Ram 1500 3.6 4x4 6’4 bed Classic. I noticed to doesn’t come with a trailer receiver. All my trucks/Suv’s Come with them from the factory. And I found a couple bolt on ones on Amazon cheap I believe it was from the Curt company. 80 bucks or something like that I’ll attach a link. What do you think I usually tow a medium sized boat. Trailer and boat probably like 6k loaded a snowmobile trailer loaded probably 4500.. what you guys think!!

I wouldn't use it. Curt is a good company, but I don't think it will be sufficient for what you want to do.

What MADDOG said. Get a Class IV hitch. etrailer.com has DrawTite Class IV hitches for sale for your truck for $244

Curt website rates that receiver to 6000 lbs so you'd be right up against that limit with it. If you're planning to tow 6k lbs regularly you'd probably be better off with a full receiver like MadDog suggested.

Get the full receiver. Don’t try and go the cheapest route. With the full receiver you have a better connection on the truck and it holds on to the frame then the cheap ones that pretty much just attach to your bumper

Agreed. Get the full hitch. But then you have to factor in that you likely don't have the heavy duty cooling or trans cooler? Alot of people don't think about that. High trans temps are what kills trannys.

It would be a rare time I would pull anything that heavy maybe once a year to and from a boat launch. And no completely stock new 2019 no fancy coolers or anything I’m just looking for a cheaper alternative to a problem

The cheapest alternative you should consider is the $144 option, period. 6k is a lot of weight, it doesn't matter how often your towing with it

how much is a new tranny again? And I bet Chrysler wouldn't do much to help you if you blew one without the related equipment. There's a reason they didn't put a hitch stock on that truck.

The reason it doesn't have a hitch is the dealer didn't order it with one. There are plenty of V6 trucks with hitch receivers. Every truck has a towing capacity based on all the factors, weight, engine, brakes, transmission etc. As long as he stays within the towing capacity he'll be just fine.

I just purchased and installed that Curt receiver myself. It does not bolt onto the bumper, but to a bar already installed to the frame just for this purpose.

My Tradesman is rated for 6,000lbs, so the Curt class III is just fine.

I've used these kinds of bolt-on hitches before; vehicle manufacturers nowadays anticipate the addition of a hitch, and so as long as you torque the hardware to specification, there should not be any problem.

Granted, if you are towing up to your limit (or beyond, obvs) very often, then yes, you can damage your drive-train.

i get it can tow...but it wasn't equipped to tow is maybe how I should have put it. i used to tow with my little tacoma with the 3.4 litre 6. but I made sure it had a tranny cooler too as well as the full hitch. It was part of the package

I'm in the get a proper 10k+ hitch receiver for the small price difference. Also, that truck should have no problem pulling 6k.

I agree. Spend the extra $100 get it right. Who knows you might upgrade boat later or need something towed later heavier.

My 2018 express nothing truck has a 3.6 also and the build sheet lists,

Engine Oil Cooler
Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler
Along with the 4 and 7 pin connector

Just get the frame mount hitch and go towing with the confidence that you're good to go. If you want to be sure you already have a auxiliary transmission cooler just check your build sheet, chances are you might already have one.

I use the the Curt style hitch with my camper and it mounts to the factory tow bar that is connected to the frame on both sides just like the full hitch. It doesn't mount only to the bumper, just one center support bolt connects to the bumper. It's rated at 6000 lbs like most class III, but it's also rated at 10,000 lbs when used with a weight distribution hitch. My camper is only 5000 loaded, but I still use an Equalizer Brand weight distribution hitch.
