Ok so I'd really like to get a Rebel, but it looks like I'm going to get a better deal going with a Bighorn sport appearance package with the Off road group. Has anyone with the off road group put on a set of the 275 70R 18 Duratracks that the Rebel uses?

Not sure I like the factory Falken tires that come with the Off road group, I just need some really good off road tire, yet not a full blown MT tire.

Skip the Goodyear’s. All us Power Wagon guys ditch them as soon as possible.

I have a Big Horn with the Off Road Package. The Falkens seem pretty good to me. They look aggressive but they’re quiet and provide a smooth ride. I haven’t mudded with them yet but they’ve seen plenty of dirt and gravel roads and seem to hold well.

I’m going to wear them down before I replace them....unless I get too antsy and have to get those shiney new 20” rims and 34’s I want. ;)

I've tried many of the aggressive tires out there (KO2, Duratracs, Falken Wildpeak, Nitto, etc) and I'm most impressed with the milestar patagonia m/t tires.

They may be a bit too aggressive for your taste, but they are DAMN quiet on the highway. Out of all the aggressive tires I've owned, they are in the top spot when it comes to non-existent road noise.

So the off road package comes with a 1" higher stance. You didn't mention it so I assuming you'll be keeping the suspension stock if you go to 34" tires?

I was set to pull the trigger a couple months ago on a 2019 but decided to wait a bit but when I do buy a new Ram I am planning to go with the off road package. Is it safe to assume even with the 1" higher ride I wont be able to transfer my current 35" tires without at least a level?

Those falkens might be decent but I want something more aggressive so when I go to buy a truck tires will be an immediate add on so I am trying to figure things out now. Worst case scenario 34"'s will be just fine because I don't see adding a level to the off road package just to get another 1 inch in height.

Correct, 1” higher suspension and I do plan to leave the suspension stock. I tow a boat often, while it’s only 3k lbs, gear in the bed and tongue weight use to make my prior truck with Bilsteins up front at 2” look a little low in the back end when hooked up. I do see a bigger boat in my future as well.

I have no idea if a 35” tire would fit, I have my doubts though.

I've been a General Grabber At2 guy when it comes to aftermarket tires. Great performance in all conditions I've drove in and quiet on the highway. My current plan is to run my falkens down before making a switch.

I have the off road package and the Falkens. they look good but are a little noisier than the goodyear a/t's I had on my '17 sierra 4x4 but have a little more aggressive tread. my experience with the off road package is that yesterday while pulling my travel trailer down a flat road the descent braking kicked in when I started to slow down and engine rpms went up to 4750..kind of annoying so I need to read up on how to disable that when not in hilly terrain.

Hill descent should not come on unless you push the button on the dash.

Yeah, that just sounds like engine breaking to me. If I recall correctly, HDC is only good up to 10mph and it has to be turned on purposely.

that's what I thought. at least on my last truck it was that way, so cant explain why that happened..wouldnt engine braking be something that you have to enable if you have it..I dont see anything like that in the specs. I know the wife and I looked at each other like "what the heck?"..

You could have accidentally touched the manual gear selector button causing the transmission to down shift. I have done that on accident.

My wife and I use to have a TT. At that time I had an F150 and when plugged in, it knew what was going on if you will and automatically assisted with engine breaking. I would assume all trucks are this way as no manufacturer wants another manufacturer to have an edge.

Hill decent only works in 4lo and the 8 speed will reduce acceleration when off the throttle in tow haul mode. Hope this helps

It is my understanding that the 1" lift with the Off-Road Package is kind of a fiction. The air suspension has 4.1" of adjustment. Entry position is at 0", whether or not you have Off-Road. Normal ride height (NRH) is 2.1", or 3.1" if you have the ORP. Off-Road 1 setting is deleted if you have the ORP, giving you only 1" of lift above the ORP NRH. With both suspensions the highest level is the same, though it is designated as Off-Road 2 if you do not have ORP. Aero mode is .5" below whatever the NRH is set for.

In other words, and I hope I am wrong, while the ORP may include beefier shocks, the only other suspension changes would be some lines of code to set the new NRH, and a different dashboard control. The Rebel gets a bit of extra ground clearance from the larger tires.

If I am wrong, and you believe there is a mechanical device providing the 1" of lift, by the logic above, the NRH would be 2" higher, which seems most unlikely. Also what would have been the logic in making the ORP air suspension less versatile, with only 4 heights as opposed to 5?

I tried to make this argument clear but I'm not sure I succeeded . . . .

I have the ORP and 20" tires. it measures 21.5" from the floor to the bottom of my hitch receiver if anyone with differently equipped truck wants to compare

The off road package does have 2 higher settings over the normal setting and 2 below the normal setting.
