I noticed some oil on my driveway, so I crawled under and took a look. There was a bunch of oil leaking from the top of the filter. The dealer is just down the street, so I drove over there and the regional Chrysler "guru" just happened to be over there. He said immediately that it was an oil filter housing problem and they ordered the part right away. For grins, I went home and removed the filter and wiped everything clean. I had a new filter on my workbench, so I put that one on and I don't see any leaks yet. I haven't driven more than a few miles though. I will keep an eye on it.

I also took a look at my catch can while I had the hood up and it was milky and smelled like gas.
I drove it back to the dealer so they could take a look before I dumped it. They all stood around scratching their heads and I am supposed to bring it back when the Oil Filter Housing arrives. It has been pretty cold here (subzero temps) so I guess this could be condensation, but I have never seen this before. I am freaking out a bit. Could this be related at all to the Oil Filter Housing?

The two issues aren't related. It's condensation, so you can expect your OCC to look like this in the winter. No worries.

Good to know. I will keep any eye on it. Should it smell like gas though? It has never smelled like that before.

Yeah this time of year it will more than any other time. the truck runs super rich to heat the motor up and since its colder it takes longer to heat up and runs rich longer.

Check your dipstick for 2 signs:
1° color of oil, if dipstick show milky oil as well you should investigate that
2° check your oil level and recheck after a weeks or so. If level is raising your engine is "making oil" what is basically fuel in the oil
It is always a good thing to run the truck hard enough to heat up the oil enough to evaporate the condensation
Check your oil temp on the EVIC

I had the same leak on my 2016 last March. Was due for a oil change anyway. Since I'm under warranty, I didn't touch it. Turns out, the oil filter has loosened up. According to my Viper tech (who I trust) he has seen this happen on Rams and Jeep Grand Cherokees.
