OK this happened on my 14 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I have had it since April of this year and it has had only one oil change (at the time this happened) about 4 months ago, with no leaks till now.

Backed the truck, which is my daily driver, out of the garage on wednesday to pack up to go out of town for the holiday. Noticed a softball size fresh oil spot under the truck. Backed it out and crawled under and looks like oil was coming from the oil filter, it was dripping off the bottom. Couldnt see any oil from the top size. There was no oil where I parked at work the night before.

Tried to get a wrench on it to see if it was loose but couldnt contort my fat ass enough to do it in the drive, LOL.

The filter would not turn with just hand pressure.

Took it to the dealer to be checked. Was ready for an oil change anyways so had them do that too. No leaks after about 300mile trip. Dealer didnt say another about it other than " should be fine now."

Anyone ever have something like this happen? Is this a problem with the Hemi's? Only thing I can think of is that 1) engine vib loosened it up (never had it happen on my cummins lol) or 2) our weather has been going from well below freezing to around 50f and back for the past couple of weeks and it was the heat/cool cycle of the weather and engine that loosened it up.

Any ideas??

Thanks
J-

Not sure why it was leaking, but if it was because it was loose you would have been able to turn it by hand. Loose enough to
Leak would be pretty loose.

Possible the old o-ring/gasket was stuck to the engine block (just a tiny chunk is all it takes) and/or the new o-ring wasn't lightly coated in oil to complete the seal.

You know what happebs to your vehicle when doing your own oil changes. I am still in disbelief that the new rams don't take more than 5.7l of oil. My dealer and I have discussed it for a while. Now I just do my own and fill it to 6.0l everytime.

I was about to lose my mind until I saw you have the 3.6

This happened to me also. Brought it back to the dealer and they fixed it. There are a few threads regarding the filter they use on the 2013/2014 model years.

Do you have an engine block heater and are using it? Is your garage heated? If not, with that extreme cold that gasket will be hard as a rock and will be much more likely to fail. Think space shuttle.

If this isn't a testimonial to changing your own oil and filter. Coming up on 8K and ready for the first oil change. Have a garage I TRUST to do the first one (of course, will watch them do it) as they say the filter is a bear to get off the first time from the factory. Will do my own after that.
That said, I just had a tire rotation and balancing and if I wasn't standing there, the tire monkey would have screwed up the rotation sequence. Be very careful out there!

Mine does it to. Just started. Oil has 3000 miles on it. Same spot as the op. I'll probably just wait till the next oil change unless it becomes more then just a few drops

No leaks here. I just did the first oil change myself on the garage floor. Would have been considerably easier with some stands or a lift though. I'm a fairly small guy and squeezing under the front bumper to access the filter was awkward. The factory filter was tight but not too bad with a filter wrench.

Mine did it too. Some say that the threads that the filter screws to is too short. Mine kept doing it so I got a filter wrench and tightened it pretty good. No oil leak problems at all now. I think they loosen over time.
