Purchased a MO-285 oil filter from Walmart today, got home opened the box and out came a Fram TG3976A. What's up with this? Did Mopar run out of filters?

I am not sure about the numbers, but do know that Fram makes a lot of the filters that are labeled as Mopar.

I checked the cross reference chart and it was a match. I'll double check from now on.

You can order FleetGaurd LF 16035 Statapore filters cheaper than buying the MO-285 at Walmart.

Mopar oil filters are pretty budget at wallyworls for only $12.50. After you pay shipping to order from somewhere it's going to be more than that.
I always open the box when I pick up a filter though.

I get free shipping through Amazon and usually here in 2 days. Nothing at all wrong with the Mopar filters but I wouldn’t use the Fram TG. The MO-285 is made by FleetGaurd but it’s not a Stratapore.

I had someone do the switch-a-roo to me long ago when I purchased an oil filter from a long gone local department store. Probably 30yrs ago. I bought a fram (thought those were the BEST). Discovered an STP filter in the box after I had the oil out of the car and old filter off. Luckily it was the right part number. I used it. I did 3mo/3000mi OCIs back then anyway. Oil was like a dollar a quart.
