I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with the 6.7. It has 76K miles and I just changed oil a few days ago. Out of all the oil changes that I have made on this truck, this is the first time some oil did not leak down the side of the filter as it was unscrewed from the engine. When I drained the oil from this filter there was barely any oil in it (say half a cup) and the inside bottom through the center hole showed bare metal not metal covered with oil.
My question is, this was a Wix filter, are there bypass valves in the filter or elsewhere like the filter housing that protects the engine in case of a plugged filter. I had 5600 miles on this trip, but with heavy towing. There was no indication via oil pressure gauge that there was a problem with circulation. I am having the oil analyzed, but results not back yet.
Thanks in advance for any info and insights.
