As l mentioned, l acquired my fine '17 Laramie 1500 5.7 in December '25 . And ever since been easily amused with the digital " gages" .

I've been used to seeing Coolant temps around 199 Deg American, +/- 3 degrees, and Oil temps warming up slower , and settling at Water Temp or couple degrees warmer.

But now that ambient temps are mid 80's American, the Oil Temp is pretty consistently at 222 , water between 202 - 212 , typically 208 . Less than 2K miles since most recent OC with 5-30 R&P .

Is this normal change , for ambient temp of 88 deg American ?

Yes, that’s normal oil temp range. Slightly more than coolant.

Keep in mind that oil lubricates…and COOLS the engine….but doesn’t have that big radiator-fan to help dissipate the heat. The coolant carries away most of the oil temperature, and some installations have ausilliary oil coolers as well. But your coolant and oil temps look normal.

I have a 2014 with the 5.7 and your numbers look very similar to mine. The temp where I am is the same 88* mercan.

Why is coolant even necessary? Anti freezes ok, but it's main job is to keep the oil temps low by keeping block temp low, it does this because it is able to dissipate heat better then oil. Builds heat faster and cools faster.

Yeah , l chuckle , and occasionally spout similar . But , seriously :

Yes , for Physics , Chemistry, Engineering, and various scientific fields , Metric is better and more logical for dealing with Really Big and Really Small values , over a Very Wide Range of potential values .

For Regular People , dealing with Normal Things , in the real world , the American System ( inspired by Imperial from back in the day ) , is more useful, easier to use with human scale qualities, and offers better precision within everyday real world contexts .
