Opinion on 2019

I currently have a 2014 Ram Express crew cab with 5.7 motor. Currently have 152,000 miles and still running strong. My thoughts are to give it to one of my kids and purchase a newer one. I've come across a 2019 crew cab, nicely optioned with 54,000 miles for 34k. I'd be looking to bring price down to between 30 and 32k.

My question is are there any issues with the 2019's I should be looking out for?? It has 5.7 motor.

I gave a 19 to my daughter & S-I-L. (bought myself a 22) the only issue has been warped manifolds. That’s a very common issue. Theirs fell under warranty. Manifolds are covered under the 60k 60 month drive train warranty so check the “in service date” if they haven’t already been replaced.

Other issues have been leaking around the shark fin antenna and high mount brake light as well as cracked rear window frames. Check the build date. Late 19s didn’t seem to have as many issues. If it’s an early 19 I’d pass on it unless there’s documentation of repairs to the above mentioned issues.

I've found that first year trucks tend to have more problems. So if I'm looking for a used vehicle, I usually leave out the first year or two. Though 34K miles is very low for a 5 year old truck.

I'd pay to have a Ram service dept inspect it, see if they recommend it. I got screwed on an F150 (55K miles) that needed a new engine after 5K miles. So at bear minimum, do an oil change and make sure nothing is wrong there.

Run a check on VIN and see if the 3rd brake light and back window is cover by the RAM TSB for extended warranty. For some reason not all 2019 and 2020s are covered. If it isn't, pass on the 2019 and 2020s.

Just as an update, I did pull the trigger on the 2019 Bighorn. It was a one owner, runs great and Carfax shows regular maintenance had been done. Dealer sold oy as Certified Used. My youngest is now driving the 14.

The two things that the 19 doesn't have that i added to my last two trucks was a BedRug and hard folding bed cover. New has a soft cover and plastic bed liner. Not sure if I'm going to spend the money to do the same for new one.

I had my bed rubber coated (Rhino lined) and added rubber mat. Also, a hard cover. Should be protected pretty good.
