Hi All,

I'm currently contemplating purchasing a new Ram 1500 in the near future. I'm currently on my 2nd Ram 1500, a 2015 with 71k miles, and am potentially looking at a new (to me) Ram. I do have a question about the newer hemi's (2023, 2024 and 2026). It sounds like the eTorque technology comes with all new Hemi's starting in 2019? I see mixed reviews about this feature and I was wondering what your thoughts are on it, and can it be turned off (my guess is no)?

I'd be looking at upgrading the trim level on whatever I get (going from quad to crew cab as well), I currently have an Express, so a pretty base model, but have had basically no issues with mine and it's all set on maintenance work. I would probably try to get into either a Big Horn or a Laramie, depending on price point. The 5.7 and 8-speed 8HP70 is what I currently have so I'd like to stick with that as it's been pretty bulletproof for me (or as close to that transmission as possible). I wasn't sure if there is one year you may prefer over the other when it comes to 2023 or 2024? Obviously the 2026's haven't quite hit the road yet, but they at least have the Hemi in them again.

Just curious on what your thoughts are on those years and the above question about the eTorque technology as that is something my 2015 does not have. Or should I just keep my 2015 and run it until it dies? lol

Yes, no lol for real. Auto manu's have ruined the potential for longevity across the board and across all brands and every 5 years get worse. You will find people sold because they love their trucks, who doesn't? If you truck never let you down, news flash you love it. The problems that hit a 2015 ram is nothing like the problems that hit a 2025 ram, and base trim is the absolute best for longevity. Now if you want that shiney apple, good luck it might work out, it works out most the time at this point. Even something small like power seats can burn down a truck and a house if it is parked there. There is a cost to those shiney apples implied in risk. If you have no shiney apples, you have none of those specific risks. You still have risk, but no risk for your f'n truck sitting in dealers to such a tragic point dealers are starting mobil services because they cant handle all of the trucks parked at the dealer with no fix because they are out of e torque units. Ram is embarrassing with the cr@p they are pulling. Look around some.

Lots of hate against the eTorque system and some of it is no doubt well deserved, however, keep in mind forums like this are an easy place to “vent” your frustrations while rarely does anyone “vent” their satisfaction.

To clarify; the eTorque was an option beginning in 2019 and continued to be an option until late 2022. 2023 & 24 it was standard. Hemis were discontinued for the 2025 year. As that proved to be a marketing disaster that rivals the roll out of “New Coke” Ram quickly changed CEOs and is bringing the Hemi back, w/etorque, for 2026. You can find non eTorque Hemis up through the 2022 year model.

I’ve had a 2017 , 2019 and now have a 2022. The 22 is the only eTorque of the bunch. So far with 50k on it I’ve had zero issues. It is not as responsive from a dead start as my non eTorque trucks were but I’m 68 now and don’t really care about how quick I can jump off the line anymore. The only real time I even notice the eTorque working is when I’m coasting up to a stop. The MGU (motor generator unit) goes into regeneration mode and via the serpentine belt assists in slowing the engine RPMs down saving on brakes.

The main advantage, at least in my mind, nobody talks about is how it works in conjunction with the start/stop system. The MGU goes into motor mode and uses the serpentine belt to spin the engine to start it. All other vehicles use their mechanical starter. So, the start up is smoother, quieter and saves cycles on the mechanical starter. Keep in mind that with the push of a button you can disable the stop/start if you wish.

Keeping my 2015 express until it dies, then will fix whatever is needed to make it the last truck I ever buy.
I have done upgrades, suspenion, headers & a tune.
I will do the audio, hopefully this year, mine reboots every couple minutes, but overall my 15’ has enough technology for my needs.

Don't get a shinney apple W worm, I would look into a pre 2022 without eTorque and now they a jamming the eTorque down our throats because of CAFE numbers for 2026, the problem riddled wormed apple hurricane has allot of weaning pains W mother Mopar cutting the feeding process, maybe in a couple of years things may straighten out but don't count on it.
Note the MGU brains of the eTorque is on national backorder so looks like the dealer is going to become a parking lot, remember 1 bad apple spoils the whole bunch.
@Burla Thanks for the Apple comparison, I really needed a good laugh!!
