Just looking for some opinions....

been looking into some aftermarket wheels for awhile and have things narrowed down a bit...

The Wheels I want are the 9" wide Fuel Hostage wheels at -12 offset... It's a toss up between running a 17x9 wheel of an 18x9 wheel

If I go with 17", I will run my current 315/70r17's (approx. 35x12.5) and likely run the goodyear duratrack in the same size when it's time to replace them.

If I go 18" I'll probably run a 325/65R18.

I should be fine with any tire at this size since I have Carli high clearance control arms and a 3" lift.

Guess I'm looking for some opinions and preferences. I see tires at 18" are more expensive and less selection...... and I'm not really sure based on the photos I've seen if I can really tell a 17" and an 18" rim just by eyeing it up....

I had moto metal 951's on my old dodge 17". I hated the look. Now I have 17" stock on my 2012 ram and I have hated them too. I love the look of bigger Rims with less rubber. I went and purchased some 20x9's with some 35's that will be installed Friday. I do believe it's preference and that's mine. No matter what u do I hope u love it and share.

17" vs 18" is noticeable, but it depends on the wheel. some wheels dont looks as good in smaller sizes then others. generally the busier the wheel the worse it looks in a smaller size, at least thats the way i see it. ive seen a few jeeps running around with the fuel hostages in 17" and it doesnt look bad at all, but its all preference.

the bigger the wheel, the more expensive the tire. if you arent dead set on running 325/65/18 id say check out 35x12.5x18. theres some more options there and slightly better prices. nothing compared to 315/70/17 though. thats a common size so theres a ton of options and the pricing is hard to beat for a ~35" tire. if money is a big factor, thats the way to go.

Yes, that 325 sized tire was just because I was looking at the goodyear duratrac tire, and that's the size available for the 18" rim.... I had considered the 20" rim, but I can't get the wheel in the width and offset I'd need.

All sounds well, but I would do some real serious research on the Goodyears and these heavy trucks. They are not the best tire for these trucks.

I had the 17" and went to go to an 18 or 20 inch wheel and tire, but for me, I had more options going 20 and the price wasn't that much different.

But if you want to keep the 17" - I think the 35 with a 17" tire looks good. Softens the ride a bit too.

I'd would warn you about the BFG and the Goodyear.
Other than that, you should be good.

I have the Hostage III and love them.
