Original motor?

How can I tell if the motor in a 97 or 98 is the original motor? I cant find a clear answer on this so I was hoping to get some clarification here. Any info is appreciated.

Not too sure how youd find that out. As far as i know, the 5.2 and 5.9 are the same motor on the outside. I think youd have to take it apart and measure bore and stroke on it and compare it to specs. Im sure other guys will chime in, but thats as far as i can tell you. You could also get your build sheet from Dodge.com using your VIN and find out all the options your truck was built with, but that still wouldnt tell you the size of your motor if a previous owner had swapped it out..

Yeah. I was just wondering if the vin was located on the motor somewhere or if it had other numbers on the motor that would match up to part of the vin. I cant find anything on this. Thanks though.

If it was not original I am sure you could and would find at least some sort of stamping that states remanufactured or some brand of rebuilder name there are many out there. What is the concern you are running into?

Not really any concern since the truck only has 129,000 miles. Just curious and thought it might come in handy to know one day.

I would bet at that low mileage it is almost certainly original the 5.7L HEMI is a 250k plus motor unless ram without oil or water damage or something.
