Overheating at idle with a/c on

2012 Ram 1500 5.7l

- Recently replaced cam/lifters with compcams Stage 2 camshaft kit.
- removed clutch fan and installed efan.
- installed 180 thermostat

Radiator and a/c condenser seemed in good shape when removed during camshaft upgrade Removed them as a unit (so I did not see both sides of the radiator and condenser) and rinsed with hose. Radiator flushed with hose and it seemed to move water well.

Truck only overheats at idle with a/c on. Once driving with the a/c on it will cool off to around 205 degrees. With a/c off idle temp never gets above 210 and driving temp 200 or below. It will take about 20-30 minutes at idle to reach 230 degrees. At that temp I also noticed the the a/c will be blowing warm. A/c compressor still engaged.

I'm thinking of having the a/c looked at and possibly replacing the a/c condenser. I had this issue with another vehicle, but it had obvious fin damage to the a/c condenser.

Yes, it is running with the a/c on.

If you have them, are your active grill shutters, open or closed?

Check your fan clutch not the Efan the 2012 has one probably needs to be replaced.

Yes, it is running with the a/c on.

Didnt see that Your efan might have issues I honestly dont know why people do this the clutch fan is more reliable NGL my truck runs cool as fk my other ram has a Efan its hotter all the time.

Well after closer inspection it appears my truck does slowly overheat with the AC off at idle. It takes about an hour for the temp to climb up to 225. So I'm thinking that all the upgrades with the engine (Performance Cam, springs and tune) pushed the cooling system to the limit. Does that sound right? I actually like having all the room in the engine bay. So, would it be best just to get a better radiator? Does anyone know the specs of the stock radiator?

suggestions besides going back to the ugly shroud and clutch fan???

Did you bleed air after thermostat swap and cam swap? Also does your temps go down after you start driving? I had this issue and it would go down after driving and it was my radiator fan, it wouldn't come on.

Yes, did all the bleeding. Temps do come down slightly, but not what I would call normal. Look for my next post on what I've discovered.

Update with some possible solutions.

I've discovered that everything cools off normally When the hood is open. I also discovered that the internal temperature of all surfaces under the hood has sky rocketed to 160 degrees.

So, it seems doing the Efan upgrade has had negative consequences in my case. Although I don't like the shroud, it obviously does more than just cool. It seems it also directs hot air back and down away from the engine compartment.

Just my uneducated guess on the situation what do you all think?
