Did you replace the cam and lifters because of a failed lifter and a subsequent damaged cam lobe?

Did you remove the VCT Solenoid and inspect it for metal shavings and debris?

Did you reuse the original VCT Solenoid?

Did you reuse the original cam phaser or install a new one?

If you did not inspect the VCT Solenoid I suspect there is some debris or metal shavings in the screen.

The VCT Solenoid is in the block under the front of the intake manifold.

What shop did you end up going with? Just curious, not saying they messed up or anything.

Was this issue ever resolved, same exact circumstance. Used original sensor. Gonna pull it today and inspect. Will probably replace with new sensor. This wouldn't be a cam timing issue would it?

A little FYI, if you actuate it multiple times & it sounds a bit different each time; it may not actually be bad. Ask me how I know.....

The sensor ended up being bad, the snap ring ear holding the spool valve in somehow got bent and was hanging up on the end of the valve. Replaced so far 100 miles later no problems.
