I am interested in retrofitting Morimoto H1s into the stock quad light housing on my 2010 Sport. I am from Canada, so my truck has the daytime running lights (DRLs). Ideally, I would like the cut-off solenoid on the Morimoto to operate as intended (on the high beam circuit). However, the DRL circuit operates on the high beam circuit as well. It is known that the DRLs are activated by a low voltage supplied by the TIPM. I am not an electronics guru, but I was thinking that if it was possible to get a relay that would energize at 12V, but not the 3-4V supplied for the DRLs, that this could be used to supply voltage to actuate (drop-out) the cutoff in the projector. The stock halogen high beam would also be fully lit in the high beam situation.

Two questions:
Does a relay like this exist?
Would this send the TIPM into a fit on the high beam circuit?

I attached a sketch of what I’m thinking.

You'll still have a slight issue.........if your truck runs like most that I have seen in Canada.

The lows go off when you hit the high beams. If thats the case, the HID projector goes with it.

Nope, lows and highs run together in the quads - even in Canada

damn Canadian trucks are fun. Its odd, I have shipped probably 10-15 sets up there, where the customers told me that they lows went off when the highs went on.

Gotta love it.

To answer your question.........well, I can't. I'm not all that great with wiring either! LOL

Okay. So what exactly are you looking to do? I'm a little confused with the wording. But maybe it's just me. Yes there is a 12V relay.

If i did not have DRLs I could wire up the projector housing to drop out the cutoff shield (via a solenoid) when i flick the high beams on. The problem is that the DRLs operate through the high beam circuit as well (at a reduced voltage). I want to KEEP the DRLs, but I want to have the functionality of the moving cutoff shield on the projector during high beam operation.

I do not know if a relay exists that would only trigger at 12V and not 3-4V. Every relay I've ever used likes to get full coil voltage, or none at all. Maybe there is a better way to accomplish this.

Okay. I get it. So it's like my running lights on my tails compared to the brake or blinkers. The brakes come on brighter than the running lights, but both run off the same wire.
