What's the best paint for using on badges that you guys have found? I'm looking at doing something with the tailgate badge and I'm not sure wether to use acrylic or enamel paint. I also can't remember the name of the primer you can use on plastics for paint to adhere better.

Any spray paint is ok. Just prep them well. Scuff them, clean, apply primer then paint.

Personally, I think that Plastidip is great for badges.

In my opinion and if the chrome is in great condition, then wash the badge with Sem soap and a grey 3m scuff pad to lift any and all contamination. 2 coats of a self etching primer or 2 part epoxy . If not 2 part which can be expensive then self etching. Then 2 coats of an acrylic primer on top of that, Dupont, etc. 3-4 coats of a color correct base coat. Mine was PX8, Mopar black. Had microfinish mix me up some cans of acrylic urethane. I could have left it there but clear coated with a 2 part spray from Eastwood company.

I use rustoleum paint on everything. By far the most durable spray paint.

Why paint them just change them completely. i had custom badges made for mine to get rid of the stupid ram head. only like $120 for front, rear, airbag and start button. they can make anything you want. i just sent them pics of quick sketch of what i wanted and they nailed it.

Yeah I could just pay to have them changed but I have an idea I wanted to do to the rear badge so that's why I asked about painting otherwise I wouldn't of asked the question. Thanks guys for the info. I'll let you know how it goes.

What about that acrylic you used on the emblems? Those turned out real nice...

How did you get yours out? I want to do something similar, but I read you had to take the horn cover off.

Just FYi, Etching primer is not good unless it's used on bare metal.

That is what the "Etching" part of it is.

Etching primer can cause issues when applied over other paints and plastic.

True! the acid in the self etch primer, lifts and softens body filler and primer/surfacer and old paint causing cracking and /or crazing but never had an issue over catalyzed paints, abs plastic, fiberglass, or chrome. Thought it was great for these badges with all those nooks and such. Did mine, didn't have an issue. Holding up great. Not my first choice but a cheaper choice.
