2002 Dodge Ram 4.7 Magnum with 184960 miles on chassis, 40k on motor and trans. I had stalling issues last Sunday with no restart and the "no bus" message and based on the fuel pressure check reading within specs, and the fact that this happened two years ago also, I ordered a replacement PCM programmed with my VIN but not with the mileage. After installation, the truck runs but gives the message "no bus". The person that did the programming claims that it is not necessary to give the mileage, although the previous supplier requested it and the factory manual say it is necessary or it will have a communication error. Does anyone here have experience with this?

In the NGC controllers the mileage is required because the PCM performs a checksum on the mileage against the ABS Module during the initial handshake. I have seen trucks without the mileage programmed and work fine and I have seen the opposite where they will not communicate properly. Get the mileage programmed. Your local dealer or good independent shop with a decent scan tool can program the mileage in the PCM.

The person selling the PCM is sending a replacement, but it is unknown to me if he will program in the mileage since the suggestion to do so ruffled his feathers a bit. I'm thinking of investing in my own equipment for future issues, which I'm sure to have if I keep this truck.
