I've read this on a few forums. Truck has 108k miles on stock parts. Truck only gets about 12 mpg. Could changing them help? What should I look for to know if they need changing .

Can't hurt to change. Pcv valves are like $20 an I deleted my egr for $30 Lol, gotta love living in a state w/ no emissions

Besides a CEL, what happens if you delete your egr. I'm in a non emissions state, and will be moving to one in a few years so no worries lol.

I'd like to delete mine, but dont want timing retardation to happen. I can't afford a custom tune to delete the EGR shenanigans. I wouldn't mind just fabbing up a block off plate, but like I said, I don't want it to affect performance. If it would help to just replace it, I will, but if it's a waste of $40, then I won't haha. The exhaust noise ticking sound under light throttle is annoying as hell, which I'm assuming is the EGR because as soon as I give it gas, the sound goes away as the truck takes off.

I wonder if the 2004 differs from the 2006 in that aspect. If I didn't need to tune it, i'd pull it in a heartbeat... very interesting. Your truck runs good I assume? I'd like to stop clogging up my intake. I'd also hate to take the effort to make a plate, worse yet to buy one, and it not work hahah.

edit. just looked them up, part number for EGR valve for 04-08 is the same. But I guess the computer could be more picky :( We'll see I guess haha

Probably. Did more research and those who deleted three egr said they lost mpgs. Kinda the opposite of what I'm going for here. Oh well. Thanks for letting me rant lol.

Will do. I'd like to see 15 city if that's possible.

I think thats what we call a pipe dream haha
13-14 is more normal for city
i only ever see 15 or higher if im doing almost all county or highway

I am like you no tune, no engine mods but if ever my egr fails i will be the first to make a block off plate!
i do run 91 and i get enough economy that it pays for itself, most of the time. That will depend obviously on your local gas prices but here all gas is expensive so might as well go for it.
also it runs like a old ford whenever i put in 87 just to remind myself why i dont do that.
Also if you can find ethanol free 91 you will get even better mpgs.

I can get 93 at Sam's club for about 15-20 cents over 87 anywhere else. Should I be running that vs 89?
I've gotten 14 in town but that was never getting the motor over 2k rpms. That's hard to do...

For sure! If you have got accurate hand calculated numbers already then go run a few tanks of super and then see where you are at. Post results! :)

Will do, I averagely get 12.4-12.7 depending on weather and traffic, driving the truck as i should... using the hemi :p, but like I said if I baby it I can get up to 14 to 14.5. But that's lame. I'll run some super after this tank is out, with my new Airaid, PCV valve and EGR valve (with cleaning out the EGR tube etc.) We'll see what I get collectively with all that and 93. HOPEFULLY the 15 I want haha! But if you think about it. I'll probably go back down to 12 or so since it will be more fun to drive :p

Oh I forgot to say, I heard some people say running that high of octane w/o mods to require it could potentially be detrimental. Is that possibly true?

No it could only be detrimental to your wallet haha.
If you really want to know get a scanner and look at short term knock. If you can run 89 and no knock then youre golden. If not keep going up.
I would run 89 if it was significantly cheaper but at 2 cent price difference between 89 and 91and the fact that some station have pure gas 91 its a no brainer for me.

The 5.7 is designed to run on 89, so if you consistently feed it 89 it will run most efficiently. I doubt you see any gain/loss on 91/93...it doesn't run aggressively enough in stock trim to take advantage of the additional octane level.

That being said, I average 14 doing mostly stop and go and all I use is 87. I just keep my foot out of it whenever possible.

That ticking noise your hearing, may be an exhaust leak. Id check that before you put an EGR valve on, that you MAY not need.

I've looked and can't find any. It's there during light throttle, which is when the egr valve is active, but as soon as I romp on it, the noise goes away, which the egr is supposed to deactivate. I'm going to take mine off and clean it and see if that makes a difference, if so ill return the one I ordered.
