Plug/Coil Wire Size?

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT/Quad Cab 4X4 8' bed. It has a 5.7L Hemi with a 545RFE Trans.

Can anyone tell me the stock mm size of the spark/coil wires?

I heard that the stock wire loom will hold multiple sizes of wire.

The reason is, I am going to replace the spark plugs and want to replace the ignition coils, and the wires and I want to get the best wire with the size that will fit. The truck has 76250+ miles on it. The plugs were changed once, but the wires and ignition coils are original. I will be using MSD Ignition Coils and Taylor wires with the stock Champion spark plugs.

The main question I guess is, can I use an 8mm wire or smaller or bigger. (What are my wire size options?)

My last question is when they say by the set; is that a set of plug wires or coil wires or both.

I haven't gotten a straight answer yet.

Unless you need coils don't replace them, and the MSD's are just an expensive stock replacement, no performance gain accept pretty red. there are guys with over 200,000 miles racing on original coils. And I think you can fit up to 8.2mm wires in the factory tray, real tight though.

+1. I would not waste your money on coils.

I thank you guys for the input. Now that will save me about $442, which is only $20 more than the OEM replacements. The WOW factor in this for me is when I order the plugs and wires, I can get a set of headers.
Now I just need to decide on the Taylor 8mm SpiroPro or Taylor 8.2mm Thundervolt wires.

That's what I was thinking. If they are tight fitting in the wire loom would it hurt to put dielectric grease on the wires to "slip" them in or is there something better?

Few guys have zip tied the bigger wires to the loom. Depending on what intake your running some of that will be hidden by the body of the intake tube.

You could use the 10.4mm Thundervolt 50 shorties like I have, get rid of the tray and a cleaner look under the hood. I also have a fairly new set of 8.5mm MSD super conductors with their Pro wire looms for sale. Pictures by hawk02 - Photobucket there are pics if this link works.
