Hi so on June 8th my 2022 ram 1500 made a very loud pop and then died, came back on but the power steering was completely gone and lights lit up across the dash. The abs light kept on for a while and a friend of mine attempted to read codes with several expensive code readers they own with no luck since the system is locked. Finally put it back in 2 wheel drive and went to drive home. Upon turning out of the driveway I was originally leaving from it started making a weird popping noise almost like something was popping out of where it should be when the steering wheel was turned. I called the dealership where I bought my truck from and got on the schedule to get it in asap.

Fast forward to 6/9/26 I dropped the truck off at the dealership to be diagnosed. Welp then 4 days pass and I check back in to see what’s going on. Finally get a response and they want me to come back in to show them what’s wrong even though I sent a video of the sound and explained where everything was coming from. So I drove back to show them and the minute the tech turned the wheel it was “oh is that what you’re talking about” so I’m frustrated as is already with the fact I’m going to have to pay a diagnostic fee yet I had to drive back into to show them what’s happening. Then they tell me they’ll let me know when the part will be in which I of course didn’t hear anything for weeks. Finally got told the part would be here July 20th. So I said ok and waited for more updates. Then just a few days ago got told the part won’t be in till August 3rd now.

I didn’t buy a truck just to have a truck. I bought it cause I have livestock that depend on it to get hay and feed so I’ve been unable to do that for them as well for 2 months now. Never got offered reimbursement for my monthly payments of the truck not being able to be used. Never got offered a rental of equal size. Nothing.

I’ve spoken with corporate in regards to the issue as I checked the mopar website and it said the parts were in stock and half price so I’m really frustrated with how the store general manager refuses to talk to me. I’ve left voicemails and asked questions with no answers. I’ve had nothing but issues with this truck since i bought it and am really hoping they’ll expedite this process as they also could have fixed the abs recall on it and also figured out why it’s sucking up my coolant too. But again they haven’t done what I’ve asked and are prohibiting me from my needed vehicle for likely another month at least with no care about expediting the part or making sure the customer is properly taken care of. I will never buy another ram or deal with Prince Frederick Dodge again at this point. We pay for a warranty and get left without our needed vehicle for months that’s not how you treat your customers whether items are back ordered or not.

I apologize I thought I included what they’re claiming it is. They’re saying the power steering rack and pinions need to be replaced

This has become common; no parts are available to the dealer for warranty. And it isn't just RAM; it is common across all nameplates. My 3500 is quietly sitting in my driveway with a "do not drive" on it until the emission parts, which are under warranty, come in. I've been waiting for three months with no clue when the parts will come, if ever. But as you discovered, if I Google the Mopar part numbers my dealer is waiting on, there is ample inventory for purchase from multiple sites.

I don't know what is going on; why are warranty parts difficult for dealers to get? It isn't just me, or you; you can read about this issue all over the vehicle forums of any brand. It is an interesting business model: offer extraordinary warranties which sound good until parts are needed for a warranty repair. I have a feeling this will continue until Congress gets involved. I've certainly let my rep know about warranty issues with getting the parts. I would not blame your dealer; they have done what they can, found the issue, and ordered the part. What else can they do?

I was told directly by corporate that if I ordered the part myself it’d show up quickly but that since the dealer is ordering it for warranty it’s going to take its sweet time so it is on whoever makes the parts but at the same time they’ve done absolutely nothing to compensate or provide an equal rental and to mention with the battery issues/alternator etc I’ve had problems with the dealership I’m dealing with let it sit on the lot for 4 days again never once put a system on it to read anything so I finally showed up to a dead truck and no work having been done no diagnostics nothing so I bought a new battery and I’ve still had problems with it but yet still all the things I asked to be fixed haven’t been touched and it’s been on the lot for 2 months so that is on the dealership at that point neglecting what the customer has asked to be taken care of

When I was dealing with my truck's problems, I questioned why they couldn't just take the part of a running showroom vehicle. Cannibalization is only for emergency war time needs.

I will say that, although I had to wait 34 days for my brand-new truck to get fixed, it wasn't for the lack of parts. Even the main wiring harness arrived quickly. Not quick enough for me, an extra day or two only.

I believe that it is the worst-case position of being up against the lemon law that really drives Ram to get parts out to the dealer and get the problem fixed quickly. In your case 2022, you wait. Yeah, it sucks, but that is the way it is. Sorry.

It was explained to me that once a truck is sold, not driven away, but signed for, the truck is instantly "used", no longer new and depreciation is immediate. Hence "RAM Corp: Get it FIXED".

not for anything, but another "i won't buy Ram again" posts by a person who joined today.

the power steering is assisted by an electric motor with rack and pinion. either the electric motor went, or the rack and pinion metals disintegrated (find that hard to believe)

so, i take it the dealer is ordering the whole assembly? were they specific on what part actually failed? Just to say it needs a rack and pinion isn't much info. Did the electric motor stop working? Was the pinion gear sheared? was the rack sheared?

i'd be asking a ton of questions and even looking under the truck with the mechanic to show me exactly what failed.

You have a vehicle that is critical to your work. The part is readily available to you, so just order the damn part, have the dealer install it and reimburse you off the warranty claim. Even if I had to absorb the part cost I would do it, your ordered part you say is half what they said it is anyhow.

Way better than being without the vehicle for months. Seems pretty damn simple to me.

Maybe because people don’t have 2k+ to just outright drop on a part either? And everytime I’ve asked to do alternative things such as that it’s been “then it’s not covered if you buy it and we won’t reimburse you”

Maybe I just joined because I just found out about this forum from a coworker but thanks for the response with that…..

I’ve had my truck for 2 years. Not that I just bought it either. And the fact I had to go assist with diagnosing it they aren’t going to let me in the bay especially since I’m a female at that and show me what they’ve found wrong it’s a whole call of “we think the power steering rack failed and pinions need to be replaced”. I’ve tried to get info I’ve tried to speak with the general manager and at this point corporate has told me the store will no longer be communicating with me since I opened a case with corporate so I should t expect a call from the general manager that it’ll only be coming from corporate. The truck is undriveable so stuck in a hard place and even if I said I want to trade it in we all know they’d say it’s worth very little since it’s broken so I’d be screwed in that manner to. It’d just be nice if they cared about their customers and actually made an effort to make sure vehicles weren’t sitting at lots for months on end especially when the customer bought the vehicle from that exact dealer

So basically you didn't come here for solutions on how to get this fixed and get your pickup back in service. You just want us to "Listen" and validate your pain. Okay, got it.

obviously, you're being too passive. there's no way they can refuse to show you damaged parts, unless they're ripping you off. being female is a lame excuse...are you telling me if you were a guy they'd allow you in?

Grab your boyfriend, husband, or a guy who knows cars and DEMAND to see what it broke on your truck. Quit playing the victim. Ask the service manager if your lawyer can see the alleged busted parts with pictures. And that stuff about calling corporate and now they won't talk is total BS!!

Who is the "dealer"? are they actually a Ram dealership? Please post the name of this dealership.
