I

i f you click on engine and performance you find the synthetic oil thread, post your question there and you will get some pretty knowledgeable answers.

Imho, with modern oils, esp top shelf premium oils, there no need for additives.

both oils you listed are good oils.

Quaker State has changed their formula after the last two polls, and the new formula is a top choice for the hemi, especially with lubegard added. I bet that ram owner heard about that combo here.

Here's voa

Note high moly and low noack - the volatility line.

Of note, two marks against quaker state would be low tbn and high CA compared to magnesium. That translates into maybe a lower interval would be suggested and not best choice for di turbo unless the formula has changed again, look for sn+ on new bottles. But as a hemi oil that clearly excels as we should be changing our oil a little more often anyhow and the other features of this oil like moly/zinc and base oil are more important for our application. QSUD maybe top 5 oil, for sure top 8 oil. Great choice either way...

And also the most "overthunk"

One of my bad habits (that I love!) is rehabilitating vehicles when something I just can't resist shows up in my lap. They don't even have to be desirable by other peoples' standards.. I never make any money on it but usually don't lose much and it's kinda fun. People spend more at strip clubs, you know? Bringing back into service a couple dozen vehicles people have given up on, and working on tons of friends' and families cars that I know never got any special treatment in their motor oil selection has taught me that people thinking hard about motor oil are overthinking it.

You two are aware that by us overthinking ram forum collectively found something 60-90% successful at killing hemi tick? LOL, just checking...

Most of those results about redline killing hemi tick the users were using "great" motor oils, and yet they "HAD" hemi tick. Maybe you guys are under thinking it.

Well enough of us have had it long enough to start a decade of lubrication testing. Close to 100 ram forum guys have tested things against hemi tick. But I'll give you this, as long as you don't have it there is not a pressing issue as far as oil goes. My truck was butter smooth for a grand total of 3500 miles, then sounded like a sewing machine, been butter quiet since my own testing. If you ever get hemi tick, I'm sure the info here will help you. Back on point, I'm pretty sure the OP has the info on qsud.

A little tick...a little tock...errr knock. One thing I have noticed about some modern engines is that folks say the tolerances are tight etc. and you need thin oil.But those same engines are loose apparently when they tick knock and slap.A looser engine apparently gets better fuel economy and couple that with a mds system and thin oil then that maybe makes the epa and enviro wackos happier. Then one has to doctor up a recipe of oil to keep a motor from falling apart? Anyone remember the Chevy piston slap engines? The low mileage th350 tranny failures? The Vega rust buckets w/ aluminum engines? The Chevy Citation? Leaked every fluid that was put in it. Makers make crap and fully expect to sell it. If I do buy crap, lol I will dump it...not doctor it.

It's mass production tolerance spread. You can't produce 8million pistons and expect every single one to be exactly the same dimensions. Impossible in a mass produced anything. So it's up to us to figure out what the hell to put in the motor to make it happy. Hopefully it doesn't blow up before we figure it out....lol!!

10500 something on the clock! I bought it march 2019 where a co-worker handed it in from lease.
I ran redline 5w30 for 500 miles but decided to switch to 0w20 qsud due to the occasional cold start tick i would get. I did get the cold start tick a few times with dealer oil change and during past summer which made me try redline.
Qsud and lubegard i only have 700 miles on, i had about 3 cold start taps so far but none in over a month. Maybe its working its way through idk, maybe i coulda waited for the redline to work through, who knows!
If i keep getting good cold starts I will continue using this, prolly try the srt filter next.

I’m a QSUD user as well, went 7500 miles on my first service with it. Have about 700 miles on the second. Engine runs quietly like I think it should. 5w30 has done well. I’ve noticed a slight drop in mileage but if it protects my valvetrain it’s worth it.

I'm also running the QSUD 5/30. Doing 5000 mile changes. Only about 300 miles into the 2nd change, but the engine seems a lot less noisy on start up. Also switched to this oil in the wifes JK with the 3.6L. May even try it in the MJ.
