So I picked up my truck earlier after having JBA ceramic coated shorty headers installed by my mechanic. First off I noticed at idle and low RPM's, truck seems to have a quieter deeper tone, but when I put it to the floor, it seems a bit louder than before. Now the real question, and let me start by saying I have not driven my truck since Wednesday. I have been driving my wife's rental, which was a Nissan Frontier. Anyway, the question is, my truck seems REALLY sluggish compared to before. Could this be due to the fact I was driving a Nissan frontier for 2 days. Or do the ECU's in these trucks have to "relearn" or adjust to the new parts?

Should probably run a tune... but you wont notice any change at low RPMs with shorties...

You will need a tune with the headers.

Even with just Shorty's? I also have Moe's ported throttle body, Vararam intake, 180 tstat, AGS delete, oil catch can, and Carven Progressive muffler. I'm shopping tuners online now at Moe's....is there a difference between Diablo T2 and i3 other than display? Going to add a Hemifever tune as well.

Oh you have a nice setup. You definitely need a tuner. I believe the T2 has the fancy screen and I don’t know what half that stuff means lol but it looks cool and I believe it’s 100 bucks more. That trucks going to be a beast with a tune.

Got about 40-50 whp left on the table not custom tuned with that setup, not to mention better cruising fuel mileage and improved shift points. At least a full second in the quarter mile gone by a simple upload.

These custom tuners should really start giving me a percentage for advertising :)

You are optimistic,i'll give you that, lol. He won't gain a second from shorties and a Vararam, his other mods like t-stat/shutter delete /taper ported throttle body don't really add any power. All told with a tune,he'll be lucky to have a 25hp increase, and 25hp doesn't equate to a second difference ,unless you're racing go-karts,lol.

I’ll bet he goes from 320 whp to at least 360+ with the 8 speed all day on a Greene Tune with that setup. Probably be closer to 380-400 at sea level on a dynojet 93 octane.

Challengers make 360 with that setup, the Ram heads/cam flow better not to mention have better gearing for the strip.

Have yet to see 2 dyno's actually make a 1/4 mile pass Tim,lol. At best he might gain maybe a 1/2 second, and that's being optimistic,he's not gonna gain a full second from shorties and a vararam, unless there is one hell'va tailwind behind his tailgate, lol

So I just got to work this morning and the old girl is starting to seem like her old self again. After a little over 30 Mile drive (all highway), it seems, that it takes much less "foot on the pedal" to accelerate and maintain speed on the highway. I averaged about 70mph on the way in and felt like my foot was almost all the way up the whole way on. Even driving up the numerous overpasses and flyovers, it seems to take less "foot" to maintain and accelerate going up than previously and it doesn't feel like it "struggles" going up anymore. My coolant temp never broke 185 degrees, even on this fabulous 80 degree Houston morning. My range to empty went from 410 when I left the house to 430 arriving at work. If this keeps up it may just work out for my driving needs and habits. Average MPG was 17.8 for the trip in this morning, which seems like a slight increase, my average MPG on my last tank was 17.2. The only change between the two tanks was adding the JBA Shorty's. Will post more updates going forward if anyone is interested.

That’s cool, you sound like your having fun already. Now spring for that tuner and tune. Good MPG by the way. I’m at like 15. Lol

I had simular experiences with my ****** black heart shorties. Mine have cracked a few times lol but I hope I have fixed them now. My truck has less mods than yours (Vararam and shorties with the 8spd) but I noticed additional low end (off idle to 1500ish is much torquer) which on the highway while causing meant less throttle to maintain or slowly accelerate with traffic. I gained 1-2mpg with the headers via the EVIC and went from 19-21mpg to 21-23mpg average, on my 89mile highway commute each way.

That's good to hear. Your first post made me nervous as I have the JBA shorties in my garage, trying to find the time to install....

Just got home from work. Turned off MDS before leaving. Averaged about 75mph. Trip MPG up to 18.1, overall MPG up to 17mpg. So an increase of .2-.3 mpg on about a 30 Mile highway trip averaging 75mph without MDS in 100+ degree heat. Had to stomp on it once, seemed a LITTLE more powerful, less hesitation, and better sound than before the headers. If the MPG keep going up, well worth that alone in my book. Pre mods I was getting 15.5-16 mpg combined. I THINK that maybe the electronics and computer may be adjusting or adjusted to the change. I will keep watching.
