I am going to be getting a paint matched fiberglass hard cover for the bed of my new ram and had a general question for you fine folks.

I was curious if anyone knows why the big name companies like Leer, A.R.E, etc. force you to contact a local dealer for price info. My first assumption was so that those dealers could jack up price on a sale, but there are so many authorized dealers around, it will be pretty easy to price shop if that is the case. I hate when pricing info for stuff like this is difficult to get; mildly infuriating would be an understatement.

Second, for those of you that have the fiberglass cover, what brand do you have and what are you thoughts on them? I like the looks of both the Leer 700 and the A.R.E LSX, so any feedback on those would be great.

Hi Iramyou,
I have a Jeraco hi-rize and it wasn't cheap but it is really well built. Here is a pic.

That top cost about $1800 it has a carpeted interior, duel interior lights, and clothes rack.
Good luck and enjoy,

I've had and other caps but I'd get another ARE. The ARE was on my 1995 3/4 ton 2500 V10 I had it for 16 or 17 years. I'd get an ARE for my 2012 if I had the money.

Thanks for the input. I called around and the LS2 runs $1155 + tax and the LSX runs $1305 + tax. These prices are after the special offers and coupons available at the moment.

I am leaning towards the LSX, because I like the look of the trimless edge. They told me it takes about 3-4 weeks for the cover to arrive, so I will likely place my order in the next couple of days.

Does anyone have photos of either the LS2 or LSX on their 4th gen Ram?

Thanks.

I have a Leer and I like it. It doesn't leak and matches the paint pretty well. It took the dealer a couple tries before they installed it correctly but that is a dealer problem not the cover. You can not haul anything over about 24-26 inches tall. No factory lights but does have carpet on the back side. Also you can get a remote for it. It looks good with a bed rug installed also.

I've been very happy with my Undercover SE LUX. You can order them factory painted and they arrive in just a few days on a freight truck. I think mine was around $1200 shipped.

That's they one I would get if I got one. Its much lighter weight so its easier on and off and it has a sleek design. I prefer a lower profile flush look as opposed to the bulkier ones that stick up several inches over the bed rails.

I have the same cover and really like it. It's much lighter than the other brands with makes it really simple to remove. It's also nice that they stock them already painted, so you can get it right away. I ordered mine Saturday and had it installed on Monday.

I ordered my Leer 700 on Saturday of Memorial weekend and was notified it is ready for install. Going in on Sat to get it out on. Got it with Keyless entry. The sales guy to,d me there were pros and cons between the Leer 700 and the Snugtop equivalent. It came down to the way the keyless system operated so Leer it was. I'll post pics of it Sat afternoon.
