Ram 2500 Rough Ride

I recently bought this Ram 2500 4x4 SLT gasser and I didn't realize it as much while I was driving it but I recently sat in the back seat while it was being driven and realized how rough it rides and I realized how uncomfortable it can be for passengers riding back there. I realize that 2500 hundreds are inherently going to ride rougher than smaller trucks and I have noticed that when I pull my camper it is not nearly as rough of a ride, but is there anything that can be done to make it ride a little smoother. I know that probably if I removed the massive lift that is on it that it would ride a little smoother but are there any other options than any of you know of?

From the picture it looks like your tires are getting pretty worn out. Some new ones would probably help quite a bit. Check your tire pressure too.

I wouldn't want to remove that lift either. Truck looks mean!

Yeah tires are getting bad and I'm sure that will help. I plan on getting new ones here soon. Im open to all other suggestions as well.

The nature of a 2500/3500 truck is a rough ride lol, if you are comparing it to a 1500 independent front suspension. The Heavy Duty has a solid front axle as well as a heavier suspension in general and therefore a tougher ride. Playing with tire pressure can soften it a little but reduces towing/payload. They ride really nice with about 500 pounds of something in the bed.
There are trade offs with everything, trucks are no different, you sacrifice ride for payload/towing. I would go as far as saying modern 1500’s are nothing more than an suv with a bed because that is what the market wants. I was quoted a study by a Ram district manager that over 75% of 1/2 ton pickup owners rarely if ever use the bed or tow, so manufacturers design those trucks for ride quality and comfort.

What lift is on it? You could always swap out to thuren rears my wife rated mine a 1 or 2 in comfort prior to thuren kit and a 8 after I installed it. Also aired down tires run 55 cold up front and 50 cold in the rear.

It's an HD truck. It's made for towing and carrying a heavy load, not comfort. It will ride rough when unloaded period.

What kind of lift is on it? Is it spacers or coils? You could go with a softer coil setup like Carli or Thuren but you are talking $$ to do it right and will lose some load capacity.

If your camper isn't too heavy going down to a 1500 truck may be a better option for you?

Its amazing how much rougher the rear seat rides than the front ones. Makes me feel bad for my son but I guess he doesnt know any better.

What psi are your rear tires, you can make quite a difference in ride quality by dropping them. Just use an inflation table and keep your load rating good for normal use

Obviously an upgrade to thuren or carli would be unmatched in ride quality though.
