Hi Folks...

I'm looking to tow my first gen 4wd, long bed (1996) dodge dakota out to my grandparents in Ohio from NJ.

My ram is a 2014, 5.7L 4wd.

I was planning on using a uhaul trailer as the setup is approved via Uhaul. I was going to tow via the flatbed car carrier and not a dolly. That being said, the 8foot bed model has a wheelbase of 131", just under the 133 requirement for uhaul.

My concern would be the overhang off the rear of the truck. Has anyone towed with overhang off the rear? Is there a limit?

Should I also be concerned with the potential for rear end sag during towing?

Bring extra straps, all the uhaul trailers I've used only had the wheel nets for the front and some cheap hardware store chair for the rear, you definitely want at least one good strap on the rear axle.

How much are you going to overhang? For semi's you don't need a flag or flashing light until 3-4' (depends on state/province) over overhang, but if it's more than a foot or two I'd hang a red rag off the back bumper/hitch of the dakota just to cover your ass.

As for sag I don't have my truck yet but from reading on here it'll probably sag with the empty trailer lol the airlift bags you slide inside your rear coils are mentioned a lot though.
