I have a 2013 Big Horn (5.7 / 3.92) and my camper is a '22 Prowler (7000 lb empty / 35ft.) I was getting a rapid thumping noise on acceleration towing my camper. The noise went away if I didn't tow the camper or towed something lighter (like my 3500 lb boat.) I've towed with truck/camper for a few years now, so I know how it tows. This is the first time I have had any trouble with it.

My issue is fixed, but wanted to share in case someone else ran into it. My son and I were able to figure out the noise was coming from the rear wheels. We pulled both the rear wheels and started disassembling the brakes. The backing plate was rusted out pretty good, but the parking brake was in worse shape. That came out in mostly pieces. It's a wonder it wasn't making noise without pulling the trailer. The parking brake was temporarily removed and that solved my issue. I'll look to replacing it soon.

Rust is a fickle beast.
