I have a new (to me) tailgate that is keyed to another truck.

I would like to re-key it so it will work with my key. I have MOPAR part #68211624AA (the lock cylinder kit) but I don't know how is is configured.

Can anyone help? Thanks all.

He replaces the entire handle but has to remove the lock at the start.

Thanks. That much I get. What I really need to know is how the new cylinder is reconfigured with my key.

You may be able to take the lock cylinder out and take it to a locksmith to have it repinned to your key, the locksmith could make a key to work with the new lock if you don't mind carrying two keys, or you can repin it yourself if you can find the right pin set. I can tell you that the pin sets locksmiths buy aren't cheap, but you won't need as many pins as what comes in their sets.

I agree, take it to a locksmith. It will take them 5 to 10 minutes.

I have been doing this for the Neon forum for at least the last 15 years. I will do it for the cost of postage. I have all the springs, tumblers, etc. Just need a pic of your key which you can send by email to alpinegreenneon at neons dot org. If interested send a PM or email and I will give you my mailing info. You will need to send me the lock. Shipping a lock in a padded envelope USPS 1st class parcel with PayPal shipping is about $3.50 each way.
Google my screen name if you have any concerns.

I did some googling of the part number for pics of the lock and I do have a lock. It's something I picked up at the U Pull r parts in Rosemount. Send me your pic of the key blade by email and I will re-pin it to fit your key. Cost for this lock rekeyed to your key code, including shipping is $4 in the US.

You might have one of those self coding locks. This is from the 2018 FSM:
Lock Cylinder Coding Instructions
  1. If present, remove the protective label off of the new lock cylinder.

  2. Insert the key that is intended for everyday use, fully into the cylinder.

  3. Slowly rotate the key clockwise, while maintaining full key insertion, to 180 degrees or slightly more (6 or 7 o'clock position).

    NOTE:

The lock will code at 180 degrees.

  4. Then rotate the key counter-clockwise to 90 degrees or 3 o'clock.

  5. You will hear the lock activate, then rotate the key to vertical key-out position and remove the key.

If your lock came disassembled like the one in the pic that I linked, then it must be manually re-pinned.

A video I found that explains how a self coding lock works:

I have several of those Bolt locks, actually.

I'll be in touch about my tailgate lock. I appreciate the offer. I'm just crazy busy right now.

So I have the kit you pictured above (68211624AA), but there are no tumblers in the kit and no instructions. Only this:

Okay, now I get it--these are what I'm missing (maybe not the exact p/n):

I can send you the kit I have and $4 for the lock you mentioned above if that works.

Thanks.
