I did the rear seat mod today. Took all of 15 minutes and cost $5.00.

Started by loosening all 4 bolts holding the rear seat down. I left one in a couple of turns to keep the seat from sliding when I lifted it up.

Stacked up 7 1/2" washers to equal 5/8", and taped them together for easier handling.

Lifted one end of the seat and put a stack of washers under each bolt location. Started the bolts in that end, then did the same to the other end.

Tightened the bolts back up.

I have the full bench seat in the back so I only had to deal with 4 bolts. For the 60/40 bench you will need twice the amount of washers.

I still have full lock when the bottom of the seat is down. The locating studs are also long enough that they still go in place.

My plan is to put a rifle rack back there. Out of sight from peering eyes. It also makes it easier to clean the back glass, and gives you more room under the seat for storage.

Did I give you this idea?

Well there was a post awhile back about places to store long guns so if that was your post then yes.
So there is enough room then? If so, how many fit and are any cased?

Does the seat still lock back when not folded down? Does this work on the 2500 also?

Yes, it should work on all ram QC and CC. The idea is to get the seat to clear the rear wall hangers when folding up.

I haven't got that far yet. Had to go back to work. I would say you could do one for sure, two might be pushing it. Soft case for sure layed in or in a rack. Hard case maybe. I'll try to do some checking when time permits.

Then the back of the seat would not lock in the up position? Of is there still a catch or lock when the seat is not folded... Just thing in the case of an accident is the seat gonna come down/forward if an abrupt stop is made.

No it still locks when not folded. Go out to your truck and fold up the rear seat. Notice how it's articulated. You are adding a bit of height to clear the retainer hooks when it goes through the folding motion.

Quick question was this 7 washers for each bolt? Did you experiment with different heights for "minimal" clearance modification?

I used 7 for each bolt. Other threads started with 5/8 inch of lift. Others said 3/4 inch. I started short, it worked so I quit while I was ahead.

Fair enough. This will likely be my next MOD. Thanks for the thread/info!

Interesting to see if you can fit a long gun on the back wall and still have the seat function. The humps on the wall might get in the way.

While this is a cool mod I have kids that sit back there and I wont take the chance that something happens in a crash. While probably wrong, I have to believe that the engineers didn't make this a fold down for a reason. Maybe due to crash testing or something. If there is even a .01% chance I am right I wont risk my kids.

Made 4 3/4" thick spacers at work yesterday. Installed today. Those bolts were TOUGH to get out. The spacing worked great and the seat back releases at ~75% lift of the bottom and stays lock at full down and full up. My only issue is that my fold flat floor hits the raised seat brackets so I need to tweak the setup a bit. This will be very handy to clean the back window or for a little more storage behind the seat.
