My ram is a ST and did not come with the factory backup camera.

I have installed a kenwood 7 inch touch screen and a cheap ebay backup camera, into the tailgate handle where the factory camera should be.

With this camera I cannot see anything behind me whatsoever, the camera is not mounted upside down, I've double checked. All I can see is concrete when it comes on.

Has anybody installed a flush mount backup camera in the tailgate handle where the factory camera should be? If so please let me know which camera you have and where you got it at, I'm really hoping my problem is this cheap camera I have now. It is un branded, I think I payed 6 bucks for it on ebay..

I want the camera in the tailgate handle for the factory look. I'm not trying to be cheap here, if somebody can point me to a camera they have had luck with please let me know!

It's tapped into reverse lights for power, I can't remember off the top of my head where I grounded it.

Make sure you tap into reverse lights at the back of trailer harness. It's the purple wire on the 7 pin or else the camera wont work properly. Once the truck is running it will cut out flicker or not show anything at all if you tap into it at reverse light taillight. Also it looks like the camera is pointing out past the bumper

Is that done with the head unit?

No, if you are seeing the ground, then adjust the angle of the camera up. The OEM camera might have a built in lens angle to compensate for the angle on the tailgate handle.

Thanks for the tip on the trailer wiring, I'll change that. The camera is mounted flush into the tailgate handle.

well i can tell you that on my 14 i couldn't use the reverse lights as power and had to use my trailer plug wiring as the power and frame as the ground. without that setup it wouldnt show a picture

The only issue I'm having with my picture is some lines across the screen. So far the picture shows up every time I go into reverse.

He is clearly getting a picture, the camera is just not aimed correctly.
This is as far as I can aim the camera up, and I'd rather not keep it this way. 831483d2f7a51965f957240d108254d2.jpg

It doesn't make much of a difference either.

the camera isnt meant to be used on an angle like the tailgate has. your going to find this with alot of aftermarket cameras. when you backup close to something you will be able to see it. use the lines to judge your distance.

Like I pointed out above, "cheap ebay backup camera". You need to replace the camera with one made for the application.

The only one I've found and I know will work is the oem camera that comes with a new tailgate handle, and I refuse to pay 300 bucks for it. There has to be a aftermarket camera that will work for thus application, I just haven't seen anything online
