I want to find a switched 12v power wire that comes on when I remote start the truck with the factory system. I know a handful of things, such as the AC and radio start up, and stay running when you switch the ignition on, that's what I would like, just need to find a wire. Does anyone know of a good spot to find one?

I'm just looking to power up my dash cam with it. It's currently on an ignition switched power wire, but thought it would be nice if I could switch them on with remote start. Not sure what other uses I could have for it, but always nice to have options.

Forgot to mention. This is on a 2014 Ram 2500 Diesel Limited.

Cigarette lighter is what I'm currently using. It doesn't come on until the ignition switch is turned on. Still off when running with remote start.

You need a constant 12V source, move fuse 90 over to 91.

or just run an in-line fuse directly to the battery terminal with a chassis ground of choice.

I want it to turn off when the truck turns off. I just want it to turn on when I remote start, instead of waiting until I'm in the truck and turn the ignition on.

I misunderstood, yeah that’s all programmed into the canbus HVAC module logic so you’ll need to look into alpha OBD.

or they sell little 12Volt PLCs if you want to get even more fancy with relays and timers for your dash cam.

I would tap the radio power and use it to power a relay. That’s what I did for my truck. There is a fuse in the tipm that controls that and you can use a fuse tap so it’s easily reversible without cutting wires.

I figure most of it is through canbus, figured somewhere has to be a power wire that's energized though. I'm not getting as deep as going into seperate PLCs, that's a bit overkill for a feature that is just a preference. lol

I'll look into this option. I figured I would need a relay if I found a wire. The cameras don't pull very much power, but I'd rather not risk anything.

Did you ever confirm this circuit was hot during remote start? Looking to wire up a dash cam as well.

During a remote start event, the ignition is not actually “on”, therefore no ignition run/start circuit in the truck will be- just like as if the truck is just sitting there shut off. By your avatar, you have roof cab lights. I would run your power wire from whatever you choose for when the truck is running. Then, I would ALSO run a power wire to the green/white wire that powers the cab lights while the truck is remote started. Just use a diode on both power wires that are feeding the cam, so the circuits don’t get back fed. You can access the cab lights power wire by popping off the panel on the side of the glovebox with the passenger door open.

Yes, but the power wire to the radio is ALWAYS hot. The OP made clear he’s not looking for a constant hot wire, and IRSmart didn’t mention if it matters.

I’m looking to wire the same way OP is, I assume. I want my dash cam to come on when I remote start, but go off when I turn the truck off. I know that the rear sliding window, for instance, is not hot until you hit the ignition button, because my radar detector is currently wired to that and won’t come on until I get in the truck. The radio has both a constant hot and an ignition hot 12V, but I don’t know when the truck turns the ignition hot wire on, if it’s when the button is pressed, or if it comes on with remote start. While I’m more than capable of running diodes and multiple power sources, that’s just too much work for a simple dash cam, I would just live with it not coming on with remote start.

The radio has only one power supply, and that’s fuse battery, which is always hot. It is canbus that makes it come on with ignition. The way I mentioned is the quickest (and only way) to achieve what you want.

Ok. I was unaware. I thought the radio only had power with engine on

Is there a pin out for the 8.4 radio for a 2018 laying around? I don’t disbelieve you, I just subscribe to the “trust but verify” philosophy.

This idea has been on my mind for months now. I finally decided to get inside the dash again last night, and see if I could find a wire that I could use. I spent probably two hours with a test light, and had no luck. As mentioned by others (but forgotten last night), the radio wire is always hot, along with the amplifier. The only way I can see to have power with remote start, and with the key in ACC position without the truck running, is either the PLC with canbus, or two taps with diodes.

I think this question was already answered, but just wanted to give an update on my end.
