Have a really old Bakflip tonneau cover which still works fine, but the black paint is to the point you can start to see white flecks through.

I was thinking of just masking everything, and on a calm day just rattle-canning it back into presentable condition with 3-4 light coats.

Originally it appeared to be a black high gloss, but I'm concerned that will tiger-stripe too much trying to do it myself with a can in glossy.

Would Rust-Oleum enamel flat black with no clear coat be a good option? Satin better? A non-enamel? Or perhaps even one of those "hammered" texture cans? Figured I'd query before ordering a bunch and regretting it, heh!

(and yes, I probably need to take a heat gun to that back rubber to see if I can make it lay flat again)

I would have your local vinyl shop cut up some strips for you. Otherwise if you measure the rectangles any online vendor would be happy to send you custom 6 year rated for probably around $50.

Painting/plastidip is a cheaper option, but that requires removal/masking prep and ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat.

Fibermax or F1 cover?

The white is most likely the fiberglass coming through, mine did that even using the 3M UV spray they to said to use.

got them to warranty them...well I have had about 5 replacement covers for various reasons.

You love it and plan to keep a while then take it to an auto body shop and have them look at it.

Just says BAKFlip G2, 2 year warranty, and its probably 9 years old now. Tiny bit of leakage too. Replaced the super nasty drain hoses when it came under my ownership with new stuff from home depot, so might try a vinyl shop first for a quote.

After all, I want to also redo the vinyl on the pillars between the windows and also put it on by the plastic over and under the sliding back window maybe a good gloss black.

Body shops by me want $500 just to pass gas in the direction of your car, so hopefully the vinyl is more affordable. I even see some 3M stuff on Amazon which may be better to just order a roll, but the reviews are so crappy.

I don’t always trust written reviews. Some assholes leave a crappy review just because... well they’re assholes.
I take the reviews divide them in 1/2 and believe 1/2 of each side.

Did you ever come up with a solution? I’m debating same issue except mine is new and too damn glossy. Thx.

Now that's funny.

I went to a body shop by me to see about getting the grill, front fascia and the passenger door (not even all of it) fixed and painted. They quoted me $1300-$1400. Guess it's not TOO bad, but I figure I could order some paint matches spray cans and try it myself first.

I'd go with the vinyl.

If it's painted metal you can rough it up with a green or red scuff pad, mask it off and paint it with Rust-oleum bedliner. I've used it on wheels and step bars with great results. Not sure if it would work well on plastic yet...
