So I got a 04 4x4 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and found I needed to replace the Evap coil due to it leaking. I pulled the dash out and got the heater core out. When I cracked open and pulled the Evap coil out holy cow what I found was crazy. Completely clogged up and even found a .22 shell casing.....definitely was a leak. I will be getting it charged and hope there are no more issues and I have ice cold a/c! Here are some pics of the coil LoL!

Yup, seen that before. A lot of folks don't realize how quickly this can clog up.

I could not believe it. Either way it's done and I saved $800 by doing it myself!!

It's a .22 just a close up picture lol. Live in Florida. Just the previous owner didn't care about the truck and never cleaned it I guess.

I would definitely get the cabin air filter. And even with the filter I usually run the ac on recirculate so its not sucking in dust and dirt from outside.

Is this hard to get to? Easy to clean? Any tips on getting at it easily?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't air flow through that coil whether or not the Ac is on? I don't believe turning the Ac off bypasses that Ac coil. That's one of the reasons you're supposed to turn the Ac off but leave the fan on for a minute or two before you shut the truck off, to blow air over the Ac coil and dry the condensation off of it to prevent that mildew smell.
