My gear selector buttons on the shifter lever no longer work. No amount of smacking, tapping, holding, pushing, will get the shifting to engage, or the hill descent speed to change.

Has any body fixed this issue or the buttons? What does it take? Where can I get the parts and what parts are there? Google is not being helpful.

The buttons usually aren't usually what fails. Usually its one of the connector pins in the clock spring, or the clock spring itself.

Scan it for codes.

Even though the check engine light isn't illuminated, there will probably be a code in the BCM or one of the other modules that will give a clue as to what is having trouble.

You'll need a scan tool that can check all of the modules, so a 20$ code reader isn't going to do it. Run by AutoZone or O'Reilly's, they will be able to scan it with something capable of reading all of the modules.
