Recently bought a 2011 1500. Never owned or driven a Doge before. Am noticing when I go to back up that it takes a second to start moving when I give it a bit of throttle. Almost like the trans is slipping. Is that normal with these trucks?

I'm assuming when you say it takes a second to start moving, you're talking about after you put it in reverse and it engages?

Does this only happen in cold morning starts? If so your converter is "leaking down" and it takes a second for the pump to catch back up.

Nope. Happens everytime, (only had the truck a week) kind of feels like a manual trans. Rev engine a bit and ease the clutch into it. Real soft. Might just be the way it's geared idk....

Yeah that definitely doesn't sound right. Only reverse does that?

Yup only reverse. Thought maybe it was just geared real low...

I'd definitely get that looked at. How many miles on the fluid?

I'd drop the transmission pan, check the fluid, check for metal shaving, change the fluid and filter, see if that helps at all. If there is big metal chunks in the pan I'd definetly take it to a shop.

With that many miles on the truck, check the dipstick to see what color the fluid is. If its dark brown its pretty safe to say its never been changed and if thats the case you may do more harm than good by changing the fluid. On the other hand if its still nice and red then drop the pan and change the fluid and filters it won't hurt anything.

It could also just need a band adjustment but I would let a trans shop do that.
