When i got my truck from the dealership they said they heard a rocker tap and that it was due to the wrong oil filter. Anyone ever heard that?

I run synthetic in the truck and it was changed 3k ago.

Since I did have a lifter tap on a filter I would say it is actually possible. Changed to a different filter tap went away. The filter that caused my tap was purolater synthetic, only changed the filter to a Royal Purple and tap/tick went away. Of note, also purolater yellow my truck did ok on, it was just the synthetic. I posted pics as well, the issue was the filter holes in that particular filter. I would say it sucks that rams are so sensitive in this area, but the fact does exist. Look at the difference in the holes, guess which filter didn't knock, yes the one on the left, RP great flow.

High maintenance little bchs, lol.

Post a pic of your filter like mine above, maybe the lack of holes is the issue. I seriously doubt it is the media.

read my oil filter thread below, if you like fram try the fram ultra.

Interesting that this is an issue. Every now and then I'll have a dry start with a lot of lifter noise and I do run Purolator filters all the time. Maybe this is the culprit

Never have had a filter related engine noise issue on the previous 14 hd trucks I owned...All of those ran oem Ac/Delco filters for 1.5+ million miles....I did however develop an internal engine noise issue on a Kawasaki FS 730v ZTR engine when I switched to a FRAM PH 8170 filter...I then switched back to the oem 7007 filter and the noise disappeared....

Interesting since both of those probably have equal total hole size. Did yours tap from the 1st day of installing the filter on the right or did it take a few thousand miles?

I'm presently running a fram ultra filter and synthetic Quaker State with no issues aside from the oil now being black. Just over 3000 miles on the oil & 7400 total on the truck.

Tapped the second I put it on, and stopped the second I took it off. I'm pretty sure it is in the begging of the Syn thread as I have posted everything. The inside holes, or the cage that holds the media together, are not equal hole size. The puro was seriously lacking and showed up immediately in the lifters. Unfortunately I didn't look at the holes in the puro yellow to see if the holes were the same, again that filter did not have lifter knock.

All the more reason to relocate the filter and go with a much larger filter.

Good info, I run mobile 1(extended performance) filter with zero issues. Truck has zero tick or noises, is actually quieter than I expected.

This is wierd because my truck made the most noise the few times that I had the OE Mopar filter on it.

I could be wrong but I think it was more the operation or lack thereof of of the anti drain back valve.
