Hey guys, I'm continuing this journey of finding the best of everything for this PW!!! So far I've made my decision on the RLD design camper shell and their roof rack...now I need to find the best tent to mount on the rack. Who's rocking a tent? Post pictures and details and why did you go with that company/model?

There's no 'best' necessarily. It depends upon your space requirement, budget, rack height, etc. Any of the canvas tents (CVT, Tepui, Ironman, ARB, etc) are coming out of the same factory in China so you're getting the same basic design. Each brand does have different colors and features (i.e. skylights, interior lights, etc). I believe Ezi-Awn comes from a different factory in South Africa, but that's approaching hard shell price level.

I've ran both a canvas tent and a hard shell tent (Alu-Cab) and the hard shells are by far the easiest to use, though they are not as space efficient.

Also keep in mind that dragging around a RTT all the time has its drawbacks. Do consider a ground tent (i.e. OZ Tent) in your selection decisions.

Lol, I'm going to be $14K into my AT Summit. I spend a lot of nights on the trail and want to be able to camp in the truck rather than on/around the truck. But if that wasn't a priority then the RLD would be a great solution!

I’m a huge 23zero fan. Had the walkabout with an annex and now have the breezeway. Both with the lst. Super comfy mattress and I’m a big dude!

The tent looks legit...not sure I'm looking for the bag style, thinking more towards the hardcover. how easy/difficult is it going up and down? Also, whats your prediction on the longevity that bag style will last? I just see it getting destroyed, ripped or torn. Could be off here but I've seen dudes hang bags off trucks all over the world and it not end well for them! Also, is there any chance you might have more pictures without the annex? Just the tent itself open? I'm trying to picture how its stabilized when open...

The bag is TOUGH I’ve hit trees, beaches and brush with it. It zips closed vs Velcro which I like. I keep 2 sleeping bags in it and a few pillows. The take down is prettt fast after a few times you get what needs to happen. The breezeway folds down a. Little faster as there’s less material than the walkabaout. As with pretty much any rtt the straps suck so I buy ones that have buckles. That makes closing up even easier. On the walkabout the overhang just has a couple guy lines and a pole that keeps it up. Annex zips around the bottom of the tent.

Thanks. It’s not an actual power wagon though. But I like to lurk all threads on here
Yea I’ve read through your members trucks thread. Good stuff. Doesn’t have to be a PW to be awesome!

Any one using a RTT mounted on a cap? Can the tent be opened to position the ladder to the rear? So the tent deck hangs over the tailgate instead of the side? Thanks

I’ve not seen that but I’m sure can be done. Taking that concept 1 step further and integrating tent into cap gets you the AT Habitat.

That AT Habitat system is real nice but that price point ain't for me, I'm probably only doing a three trips or so a summer in fair weather on a weekend. Definitely like the idea of integrating cap and tent though. Thanks

I'm curious, how come more folks don't put the RTT on the cab and thereby preserve access to the truck bed?

The roof will support 190lbs or so. The tent below is a S African Bundutec. It opens and closes with the push of a button, has a light, two fans and two USB charging stations. It also holds 4 sleeping bags and two pillows. Camp set up and take down is effortless.20220531_174748.jpg20220324_155058.jpg20220305_105124.jpg

With your setup, take a look at an alucab clam shell. They set up easy and hold the bedding. You can also hang a 270 awning off the side and put up sides for a large enclosed area.

Your tent will be 7ft off the ground, you may want to look for something easy to set up and put away. Dragging up pillows and bedding is also a pain.

I'm very happy with my budutec and can't recommend them enough. Their prices include the shipping.
