running hot

I have a 2019 dodge ram 1500 3.6L, that is running hot. I took it to our company mechanic and they ran test and I was told it was leaking in the exhaust system. I was also told that i would need a new engine. What should I do?

It would be helpful to include some information about the mileage, maintenance history, and overall condition of the truck to get more informed advice on what repairs would be likely or common.

For example one owner 50k miles is one thing, multiple owners with minimal maintenance and 200k would be the other extreme.

And some elaborating on how the overheat situation evolved. Suddenly with no warning, or gradually and multiple instances.
