Fellas. I get a vibration that I feel in the steering wheel at 74-76 mph. I just got tires and don't think it is a brake issue. Ideas?

Check the balance on your new tires. They probably were not balanced properly.

:roflsquared: kidding!!! Sounds like a wheel(s) out of balance, especially if you didn't have the shake before the new tires.

It's been awhile since I've been on here. I was just going to do a search on this exact topic. A few months ago I got two new front tires at the dealer (due to a chunk of metal ripping through one). I had the exact same shaking issue. I took it back to the dealer to re-balance the next day. I left and it shook at a different speed. I took it back again, same thing. They had 3 shots at it, and I've wasted way too much time at this idiotic dealership. I'm taking it to a tire shop next to have them check the balance. This shaking is driving me nuts!

Could be some subpar tires. I've heard of some tires needed crazy amounts of weights to balance and others of never ever fully balancing right. Manufacturer defects.

i've had quite a few that simply wouldn't balance. my car currently has a set like that and can't go over 90km/h without getting very unstable and unsafe

I have noticed the same issue. If I go faster or slower, then it stops. I would think if it were a tire balance issue, it would remain regardless of the speed. It hasn't always done this either, but I can't pinpoint the exact time in which it began.

Keep us posted with what you find out.

Generally an out of balance would be at a certain speed. It creates a harmonic only at a certain rpm of the tire. A bent wheel on the other hand would cause a shake at all speeds.

I'm still on the stock wheels and tires...will have to take them in and have the balance checked. Thanks...didn't think it could be a balance issue, learn something new everyday!

whoever installed probably didn't balance properly or it's also possible you lost a few weights along the way. new weights can actually fall off quite easily

I would like to say some stuff about this in a certain manner but the moderators would probably ban me. In no way, there is a balancer in the world that can balance any tire for highway speeds. Especially larger tires are harder to balance. An road force balancer would help out if your shop has it. But again no balancer in the world can balance tires at very high rpms or "75 MPH".

True, but 90% of dealership employees will get it within 1/2 of an ounce and call it good instead of taking the time to get it to zero, the closer it gets to zero the less chance of vibration you have.
