Shifting D to P, P to D= “clunk!”

1500 sport (2012) billstein level. 34’s


So whenever i shift from drive to reverse and back the other way i get a audible metallic clunk and some faint electrical whirring.

U joints seem to be ok

But i see some slop in the driveline for sure. Seems like the drive shafts spin far to much without the axles spinning (brake applied) when direction is changed.

Transfer case? Transmission? Anyone have an idea?

Most likely the drive-line slop is due to a worn differential gears. You might want to open the differential and check for metal wear and change the lube while your at it.

Yeah im doing that tomorrow. Going to change fromt dif and t case lube too.


I also feel a sort of whirring in the pedals and steering wheel whenever im going 30mph or less. Like something is rubbing somewhere.

Brakes are fresh. Maybe thats the diff

Does it sound like this? Apparently it's "normal" I don't know, mine does this. Pausing in 'Natural' seems to solve the issue for me
