Greetings to the masses. I am a noob in the his forum. I have a 2012 Mega Cab 2500 Longhorn Laramie 4x4, loaded out with only 24,000 miles. The OEM batteries are giving out so today I went and bought new Bosch AGMs from Pep Boys. I went to install the passenger side battery and neglected to disconnect the other battery. Sure as can be, I bumped the positive and negative cables together and made a big spark. I got the battery installed and the truck started fine. However, the radio now doesn't work at all. The display is blank and the back-up camera doesn't display there either. The back-up audible warning still functions and beeps normally. I checked the fuses for the radio and back up system and they are both good. Did I really screw up the electronics or are there other fuses or simply fixes to run down first? I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but today suffered from lack of caffeine and food and just brain farted it. Ugh. :puke:

Probably just blew a fuse. I did something similar on my Jeep and had the A/C, radio, and interior lights stop working.

there's fuses under the hood and some in the cab. so be sure to check both. if you have a tester you could just go through every fuse. i don't know jack about the radios in these trucks but i know a lot of the older ones also have a fuse right in the radio

An inmate on another forum suggested I disconnect both batteries and allow the system to power down and reset. When I installed the other battery yesterday morning, I did just that and had it all disconnected for about 15 minutes while I swapped out the second battery. When I started it up and checked, everything worked! ? ! :roflsquared: Not sure how or why but I'm not looking the gift horse in the mouth. I won't make that boneheaded move again. Hopefully someone else can benefit from this post down the road if they pull the same silly move. cheers! :favorites13:
