Hi Guys-
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. 2-wheel drive 4.7L V8. 270,000 miles +
I have a phantom shudder that I cannot locate.
It happens when braking.
I thought it was warped rotors, so I replaced them
Ball joints were worn, so I replaced them.
Upper control arms were in the kit, so I replaced them. lower control arms seem to be solid, so I did not replace them.
Shocks were worn beyond anything I have ever seen, so I replaced them.
U-joints were worn out, so I replaced them.
Then I heard a howl coming from the front end. So I replaced the hubs.
The shudder has lessened considerably, but it is still there when braking hard.
If anyone has an idea where else should look, I would appreciate it.
-Thanks in advance-

This would be my line of thinking.... assuming an 06 has rotors in the rear?

Shaking under Hard Braking ?
Is it Shaking or Pulsating ?

ABS system will Pulsate against your foot, if you are braking Hard. As each tire begins to slide under braking, the ABS will relieve the pressure on only that wheel, then it will apply the pressure again.
That happens every time a wheel begins to slide under braking

Wit that does the truck have any ABS light on and or codes? If so it could be kicking on when its not suppose to.

Have you measured the runout at each rotor, using a dial caliper? I am guessing you have not. This is really the first step towards diagnosing a brake shudder. The rotor(s) could be fine, it may be something going on in the hub area, maybe just some dirt or rust on the hub, causing the rotor to not lay true to the hub.

The tires re new. However, I have not replaced the rear rotors. That's the next item. I'll do the rear shocks at the same time.
I have not measured the runout.
There are no lights on the cluster and there are no codes.
