I didn't see anyone list this yet, do yourself a favor and buy this. It makes spark plugs in these trucks way easier.
That Gearwrench socket is EXACTLY the one I purchased….which STILL was too large for the hole. It’s the one I “turned” down on my bench grinder before it would work. (4.7L V8 in Ram 1500)

(The advertised price in that link is much lower than the price was 8 years ago…. I seem to recall I paid $28 for it.)

Sorry I was referring to the 5.7, I'll edit my post

Past spring, my dealership said 6 hour job, can't remember exact price, but was around $1200.00 to $1300.00,. I did it myself, right under 3 hours, 16 plugs about $100.00 to $106.00 (NGK's), I'm 68 years old and my fingers lock up at times from working in the construction industry over 30 years. Not a hard job and yes the rear 2 driver side where a PITA, but do able. Get proper tools, extentions.
Maybe they quoted 6 hours because it takes 3 men to do the job: The technician, the shop foreman, and a trainee! ;)

image.jpgimage.jpgI did mine for the second time and mine is a 5.7 with a tune due to larger injectors different maf and colder plugs, only 30 on them but here’s a pic of the electrodes and a slightly different underhood pic,no easier except maybe the air box.

The Ram dealer is doing my 2015, goes in this Thursday 2-24 -26 for the first time to put in new plugs 112,3-- miles, I bought plugs late last year but because of a collapsed rib I'm having dealer do it, I'm really disappointed I can't . However there charge time is 2 1/4 hours $440.-- I asked why price was so high and they informed me they use antisieze on the threads and they use dielectric grease to the coil plug contact area.

Thanks for this report.
In younger days, the rear passenger side plug in Chevy engines were a bear to get at, all sorts of u-joint wrenches. I'm arthritic enough now to look at this report and conclude I won't be able to do this.
Ha! You should try changing the passenger side on a V* Monza from the mid to late 1970s. THEY were just plain old nasty. The driver's side wasn't any better.

2-1/4 hrs sounds reasonable, but $195.56 / hr labor rate doesn't. Go to a highly-rated independent shop next maintenance need. I long ago quit going to a Dealer.

I didn't have those problems cause I was too poor to buy a car until 1983 after I graduated.

One was instructed to disconnect the motor mount and jack up the engine on the V-8 Monza to get to the spark plugs on the driver's side, due to the steering shaft.

FE equipped big block 67 to 70 Mustangs were as bad if not worse to swap plugs on. We used to use a torch and blow holes in the inner fenders on both the Mustangs and smallblock Monza's ;)

We can't forget the plugs on a full size chrysler with a 440. Thos tw back ones on driver's side were not nice. Best accessed from underneath

Those 1970's IMO all 400 along with the 440 were a pain even more so if the exhaust manifold was hot...

I still remember THAT short, fat, Jeweller that drove from Toronto to almost Ottawa, in the summer. He was always in a hurry even on a 95 degree day. He came into the shop and wanted an oil and filter change plus spark plug change as well. You couldn't get close to the engine compartment because of the heat. I refused to work on it until it cooled down, I was not popular with the service manager.
I got even for that one though when he was looking for a freebee for one of his friends with a little Honda bike. I cleaned it, tuned it AND applied a healthy application of Armourall to the seat. When his buddy first tried it, it literally left him standing. There is an old rule. don't irritate the mechanics, they know how to get even.
I've done a few things, the typical loaded condenser, wiring the shop bench so the next one up got a shocking experience
The list is long but most were funny.............

They are blowing smoke up the exhaust!!! Both the Anti-seize AND the Dielectric Grease, for the amount that they use would not even reach 25 cents worth. If they are charging for the whole container, make sure you get the rest of it to take home!
By the way, a lot of spark plug manufacturers do NOT recommend putting anti seize on the threads. I just read an article last week about that. They say they have a factory coating already on them.
Sadly, dealerships are getting more dishonest as the day goes by!

Thus the term: "Stealerships".
