I could be wrong, but when I first got my 2025 Limited Longhorn, the speed limit display showed dashes when there was no signal from the interwebs or wherever it gets its data. After I took it in for service where they reset everything in UConnect and presumably the driver's dashboard display, it now defaults to 55mph.
I don't rely on that feature as the end-all for the actual speed limit. When I know what the speed limit is in areas with which I am familiar, there is no issue, but it is helpful when am in areas I do not frequent, particularly when they happen to be country roads that vary from 25 to 55mph.
Anyone else run into that? The dealership told me Ram is supposedly looking at it, but that was several months ago.

The value comes from a forward facing camera that reads the speed limit sign as you approach it. It also detects school speed limit signs.
I believe the camera is on the back of the rear view mirror so that might be the first thing to check.

I have a 2025 Limited and it works correctly.

It appears the value may be coming from elsewhere because in a section of road by my house where I know the speed limit is 35mph, it shows 55mph for parts of it but 35 for others even though there are no speed limit signs for cameras to see.

The Uconnect 8.4C NAV radio in my '21 Warlock has a speed limit warning in the settings. I messed around with it when I bought the truck, then disabled it.

I searched a soft copy of the owner's manual for my truck and couldn't find any info. I will check the Uconnect in my truck sometime in the future and snap a few pics.

The camera reading speed signs sounds fascinating, but maybe consult your owner's manual.

I've poured over the owner's manual and have been less than impressed with the number of things it glosses over doesn't cover at all. The speed limit sign thing just isn't happening all the time, at least for me. When I turn down one of the streets to my house, there is a speed limit sign stating 35mph. About a half mile down the road, the displayed speed limit changes to 55mph. There are no speed limit signs on that road other than the first one. So I am stumped as to how my Ram truck determines when to display a speed limit and when it defaults to 55mph, which I still contend should default to dashes.

Most of the rural roads where I live, the NAV does not indicate a speed limit.

I don't recall seeing any incorrect display for speed limits; it just doesn't indicate a limit on most.
I do find the NAV is extremely behind with updates, so if the road was once identified with a particular speed limit, the NAV might be very dated.

My '21 8.4" 4C doesn't appear to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates.

I thought it used the maps in the NAV system to display speed limits. If that is the case, it will only be as accurate as the NAV software, which of course is subject to updates. And - it may well be that some areas aren't updated in the system. A few years ago, I used a Garmin much of the time. That showed speed limits, but there is no camera. My 2025 Big Horn doesn't have a camera (I don't think), but it does have the 'radar' on the front for adaptive cruise control.

A police officer is going to go of the sign on the roadside , I would never recommend relying on what the truck says.
