Yeah, that pretty much amounts to he didn't want to bend the pipes and do the work to do it right. Definitely need to get that loud out from under the truck for all to enjoy
Agreed. Now that sound is just reverberating of the ground and its gonna be hella noisy in the truck.
As far as power loss, I too am a bit surprised it's as bad as you describe, though you won't believe how many guys run open headers at the track because it's gotta make more power that way, only to find later on that they consistently get better ET's with some sort of exhaust. Less isn't always more when it comes to back pressure. Scavenging and all sorts of other variables contribute to an exhaust system helping or hurting performance.
Regardless, I'd lose those little turn downs for pipes out the back lickety split if it were me, but that's just my opinion and that plus a buck fiddy will get ya a cup of coffee... [emoji12]
To that end, there was a time I slapped a temporary exhaust on my ~550 horse Buick just to get to an event on time. It was headers, straight into some bullets, and then turndowns. Sounded like a damn nascar. Everybody thought it was awesome except me, as I was the poor shmuck inside the car getting my fillings rattled out of my head. I went to a full magnaflow system, and although I have no ETA to back it up, it was a noticeable power increase over the shorty exhaust. Didn't sound as vicious, but definitely pulled harder.
