Split rear tailgate for 2015, just a rumor?

Has anyone heard if the split rear tailgate is going to be offered in 2015. I read about some rumors of it but can't find any current information. Thanks!

The concept looks pretty cool. Could let something longer than the closed bed sit on one side while the other is up and locked keeping stuff from sliding out but I dunno. I'm not really sold. In 2015 they should just add something like the tailgate assist as a standard feature. Let's not get too crazy too fast lol

I think a split tailgate would be kind of dumb though.

The only thing I can think of as a good use for this is someone hauling a ladder or 2x4's with a tonneau cover they don't want to remove/open/roll up. BUT, strapping it in so it wouldn't slide out when you accelerate would be a *****... (maybe not so much with a ladder, but 2x4's really have nothing to tie down onto)

They also probably won't be able to stand up to much weight like a traditional tail gate. But if they folded down and out at the same time where you can use the bed as a work bench and use the tailgates to hold your tools beside you to free up the work area that would be the only use I would have. Other that that everything y'all have talked about so far is some very good points.

Didn't Ford/Lincoln have a split gate that swung out, not down, on the defunct Blackwood Lincoln version of the F150? No one really went for the truck and I don't think the tailgate was very well liked either.

They have enough trouble lining up and keeping hinges strong to add something else to the mix...it's a tail gate...not rocket science....and I don't want a slow opening auto tailgate, when I want it down I wanna pull thlatch and let er slam, if I've got a handful of material I don't have time for slow opening doo dads....

You would be correct. Tenth gen style f-150 that was called the blackwood.

I don't need a split or automatic. But I would like the something like the ford built in step. Simple but really useful on a lifted truck.

That step thing on the ford would be nice if it was more flush with the gate but the way they did it seemed to be a dirt and crap catcher.

I'm suprised we haven't heard much details on a redesign of the truck. I don't know if I would like this split tailgate or not. I would be worried on how strong it is, since if you can bring each side down, as well as open it sideways.
