I'm so old I remember the only crew cab trucks were used by railroads so they could carry four track workers down the rails to fix sections.

Very few fleets up here use a regular cab truck anymore, the majority of the ones i see are bought new,i'll admit a fair number of them are modded 5.0 trucks, but Fords still selling them, and so would Ram if they offered a comparable truck

I don't doubt what you're seeing, but the numbers strongly indicate you're in an outlier market. Ford doesn't even bother making them in any trim other than the base XL, so that tells you who they are targeting them to.

The 5.0 is the only motor offered without going to an 8' bed, they dropped the NA V6 awhile back and don't offer the ecoboosts with the 6.5' for whatever reason.

Chevy is the same, the WT is the only trim offered. Unless they've changed recently, the only drivetrain option is RWD vs 4WD, they are all 2.7L turbomax and an 8 speed.

I remember when Ford started offering the SuperCabs back in the mid 70's and it took abit before they caught on,as up till then it was all regular cabs, unless as you stated it was a railway truck

I don't doubt you're right,as alot of the little Fords are bought with the idea they're gonna be modded with boost or nitrous.
There's a couple boosted ones for sale right now on my local marketplace

International built the first 4 door truck, but they were very rare. Mid 1950s, and I've never seen one except online and I go to a lot of car museums. I don't know what one would sell for now in decent shape, but just from what Scouts sell for I figure it's at least a kidney.

Ford and Dodge started in the mid '60s, and GMC brought up the rear in the early 70s.

The SRT division was headed up by a gent named Ralph Gilles in the mid 2000s, eventually becoming the Chief Design Officer for Stellantis NV.

I had the opportunity to meet Ralph at the annual Spring Festival of LX cars in Irvine California. He really had a passion for the SRT lineup back in the day and he was fun to hang out with.
The grandfather of the LX/LC platforms!

I had the opportunity to meet him personally and he signed my 06' 300SRT8.. it was a first run production car with the four piece front clip and three piece rear clip.

A close friend of mine was the factory SRT race car driver in Canada for SRT back then, and personal friend with Ralph, Rob Pacione. I met Ralph and his wife when they came to his place in Claremont, ON.

Ralph and his wife drove in with a bespoke 1-of-1 Viper in white with all the trimmings just done for his Viper.
I have pics of it all, too!

I got Chris at LMI a sig on his V2 CAI for the 6.1 back in the day and sent it to him out of respect, and I believe it still hangs in Chris's office/shop to this day.

His passion for SRT was incredible... listening to him talk about him designing the LX/LC platform was awe inspiring to say the least.

I surely have always preferred fast cars, and now a truck, but based on some things going on lately, I don't care for the concept of Street Racing. If they come to pass and are good, if I buy one, it would be the only time I would black out or change a badge. Just one guy.

I'm with you. I like my Camaro, but I'm not going to street race. I've done a lot of dumb **** over the years, and am likely to do more dumb **** in the future, but that particular dumb **** is behind me. Here the danger is compounded because there's a lot of violence centered around the street racing scene, too many armed thugs in stolen cars and you know how they got both the guns and the cars.

I'm kicking around selling it and buying a Cadillac CT5-V when I'm a little closer to retirement. Something still fast and fun but much more road trip friendly. My biggest worry is there's going to be so many nannies in the newer cars it'll irritate me to drive and ruin the experience.

Crossing Montana, West to East, open road and land on US 12 a decade back, Rolling along at 75 in my 5.7 L Dodge Hemi Magnum R/T, a guy in a Vette blasted past me, fast, 90, 100?. I dropped the hammer and his head came up, I suspect he heard the engine. Pretty quick I was right behind him. Smiled, beeped the horn, and backed down to 75. Pretty much the last time I really pushed it. A great car that I miss, though the RAM Sport 5.7 Hemi is close enough at my age.
