Hi
I have a 14 Sport. Currently 70k miles. Original brakes... Mostly highway driving.
I notice a slight humming/straining when I turn the wheel slightly to the left. Doesnt happen on the right. It happened before and after I had new stock size tires installed/balanced.
It almost reminds me of the feeling/sound the pump made when you were low on power steering fluid.
Any ideas where to start looking?
Thanks in advance.

It is electric. I was saying that was what the noise and feeling reminded me of.

This won't help but I'm also noticing some steering issues in my 2013.
I still have to do some homework on how the electric steering works but I expect either a leak in the rack (assuming it uses hydraulic fluid somewhere) or corrosion on the electric connectors.

Thanks. I haven't seen any leaks. I have no experience with the electric set up.
Someone here must have had the same problem.
I am trying to get an idea before I go to the dealer and end up with a big bill.

Check the electrical connections for any corrosion where they mount to the rack and the ground/ clean and put bulb grease on the connections, die electric grease is only good for holding moisture out not a good electrical conductor, you living in NYS.

Finally got around to looking at my sticky steering. Long story short, it was getting more difficult to steer at low speed.
I didn't notice any leaks so I just unplugged the two connectors, gave a light scrape with a pick and plugged them back in with some dielectric grease; and just like that everything is working perfectly fine again.

Hope this helps man, good luck with your truck.

They're right beside each other on the driver's side of the steering rack. They're tricky to reach if you have the factory skid plates but a 90-degree pick and a creeper was all I needed. Just be gentle pulling the red tabs first.

Does the noise only happen when turning the wheel when driving it sounds like right side wheel bearing

Thanks Chevy Slayer. That might be it. Tried contacts and the same.
I will check bearings. Never had looked at them as I somehow still have the original brakes.

I just joined the forum to ask this exact same question and to browse around of course. I have a 2013 that sounds/feels exactly the same. It only happens on mine when running about 10 MPH turning either right or left. Funny OP about how it sounds like it's running low on fluid, my post would have said the same thing.

I am going to try cleaning contacts this week. If that does not work I am bringing it to a mechanic to work on something else and will have them look at it and post back here either way.
