Are these tires any good in the snow im getting nervous in wisconsin thinking about winter and ice fishing. Should I buy something more aggressive? I have all stock suspension.

I think you'll find the general concensus to be "NO"...but, I am am from Florida and can't give any real world experience on them. Unlike most people, I like the HP's...I hear the Duratracs are good in snow.

Imo the Goodyear HP's are horrible in snow, just cant get traction! But yes a great snow/AT tire would be the Duratracs!

I live in ND man I'm with you on not knowing if they will be good for snow and ice, but it looks like there is enough syping to hold the ice I just wouldn't try to dig through anything too deep.

from experience, the best snow tire ive ever had is the bridgestone dueler a/t revo.
my old summit mud dawgs did ok, but were terrible on the ice.
the goodyears i had were awful, (stockers)
and my falkens im running now havnt seen any ice or snow yet.

if you plan on doing alot of ice and snow driving you will want an all terrain tire, not a highway tire. Hp's IMO would not be a logical choice for your needs.

I don't know your expectations of a highway tire in the snow.
My Express 2wd open diff stock Wrangler HPs did excellent in the snow and sleet last year.
Never once had an issue.

If you're looking to plow through 12" of powder on ice, no they won't work.
If you expect to get through a few poorly maintained roads, you'll be just fine.

Honestly, I've never driven in the snow, but without my LSD, I couldn't even get them to perform well in the rain on my last truck, so I would doubt they'd handle snow well.

Edit: depends on if you have the factory LSD though.

That may be why I feel mine handle well in the rain, I have the 3.92's with the factory Anti Spin.

I've never had any of the expensive on/off road tires like Nittos, Duratracs, etc... Up until now my previous trucks were all two-wheel drive models. I drove through the worst winter Iowa had seen in quite awhile a few years ago in my 06 2WD Dakota and it had the stock Wrangler SR-As on it. Never had a problem. I do think you would see better traction with an on/off road tire but you pay the extra money for it.

the stock tires and winter are not an ideal combination. i just got rid of my stock tires before winter. usually an AT works well, have had numerous sets of BFG AT's for winter tires, but I usually just run muds in the winter. i like to play in the snow and i don't plow my driveway often, lol

If you're really looking for a winter tire, buy some snow tires!
They are made out of a compound that stays soft and pliable in the colder temps.

They make a night and day difference over A/T or M/Ts.

I don't currently have them, but i have driven with them in the snow in the past, and as long as you put it in 4 wheel drive they perform quite well. I've gone through deep stuff with them where people were getting stuck and backed up hills with them.

Some interesting responses in here... I've never had the opportunity to run the stock HPs as I've never had them on a truck... I do however have considerable winter driving experience..
- I live in Northern Alberta (Fort McMurray) where the winters are long, and cold
- I've owned a Ram 1500 and currently a 3500

The stock Goodyear SRAs from my 1500 couldn't stick to glue if you tried, they were terrible. I ran Toyo OpenCountry ATs on my 1500 as all seasons through the winter, they performed well, never really had an issue. I got my 3500 with BFG ATs on it. My first winter with the truck, I was not allowed to drive due to a medical issue, so my wife insisted on winter tires. I had never bought winter tires before, but figured, its a big truck, she's not comfortable driving it, may as well. We went with Cooper winter tires, cannot recall the model right now.

I had the opportunity to drive the truck periodically during my prohibition and was amazed at the traction. I thought my Open Country tires on my 1500 were good, these were amazing. She drove the 3500 through 2.5 ft of snow down highway 63 heading to BC for Christmas. She couldn't see the road but between her and me in the passenger seat, we kept it on the ashfalt and she made the 4 hour drive without losing control once.

The following winter, I put the coopers on again and drove all winter with 100% confidence that I could stop/accelerate or swerve if needed and I had good traction. Yes, 4x4 was left on most of the winter, but when you have roads like we do, it's a given.

Currently I'm in Calgary, caught in a snow storm with my Nitto TerraGrapplers on and they are performing well, similar to the Toyo O/Cs. We do however have a tire-change appointment on tuesday to get them switched to the coopers.

So... the point of this? Winters are totally worth it.... as good as you think your AT/All season/whatever are, winters will chew them up and spit them on the ground for you. The only thing I still need to do is buy some new 17" rims for my summer tires and it'll take the pain out of changing the tires every winter/spring.

I have to disagree with the majority...I was stationed in DC for 2 yrs, and drove it during the blizzard of 09, and I plowed thru the snow like a champ, even pulled a few ppl out. Drove it in bad snow/ice, and have traction. I just bought a new set of 4 for my 20s
